Dubai Education Zone and Sony Gulf FZE present fascinating Science Shows by renowned Japanese Science Entertainer

Dubai : Sony Gulf, in co-ordination with the Dubai Education Zone, a division of the Ministry of Education is organizing a series of Science shows at the Knowledge Village Auditorium on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May 2006 for Grade 4 students from Dubai's schools. The Sony Science Shows have been created to stimulate interest, make science learning fun for children, and to encourage them to question natural phenomena that have scientific implications.

The Sony Science Shows are a part of Sony's Global Community initiatives that includes Environmental Conservation Activities, Donations to Museums, Educational Exhibitions and Awards and Emergency Humanitarian Assistance. The Sony Science Shows, being done for the first time in the UAE for Dubai schools, have also been organized for school children in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"We congratulate Sony for launching an exceptional initiative. When Sony first approached us with the idea for organizing a Science Show, it captured a philosophy we encourage all our schools to practice - that of experimenting with teaching methods that spark children's natural sense of curiosity. We must remember that the common thread running between the formative years of the world's greatest scientists and thinkers is their natural sense of wonder. Indeed, we are pleased to partner with Sony and we encourage corporates in the UAE to follow their example in investing in our future generation," said Ms. Khadija Al-Hussaini, Joint Director of Private Schools Department, Dubai Educational Zone.

Sony places high emphasis on innovations and scientific research and invests approximately 7.5% of its global turnover in research and development. The Sony Science Shows is one way of nurturing these attributes among youth in an environment of fun and personal engagement.

Mr. Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony Gulf FZE, said, "The Sony Science Show is targeted at grade 4 school children. We were pleased to find out that, children between the age of 8 and 12 years account for almost 25% of the population in the UAE. We believe that instilling and nurturing a sense of curiosity and scientific thinking among these young people is very important for the future of society this great country".

The Sony Science Shows uses the genius of renowned Japanese scientific entertainer, Mr. Soichi Nishimura, whose personal passion, his part-time assignment, is showcasing simple scientific experiments to school children. The one-hour show is designed specially for 4th graders uses interesting and interactive scientific experiments that demonstrates scientific principles such as static electricity, rotational motion and flight dynamics, properties of air etc.

Participation in the show has been free of charge for the schools and school children.
