Dr. Nimeri stated, "During the one-hour health talk, the presentation will take around 10 minutes and the following 50 minutes will be dedicated to answer the audience's questions. Attendees might also have the opportunity to meet some of the patients who had a bariatric surgery or are being evaluated to have one. Bariatric surgery, namely gastric bypass surgery, may cure or improve type 2 Diabetes Miletus in 84 % of patients. This is what we will address in-depth in this upcoming health talk."

"The invitation is directed to the public from all ages, and we highly encourage them to attend this gathering to help raise their awareness about healthy lifestyles and obesity prevention," Dr. Nimeri said.

"We look forward to seeing different categories, either patients who already had surgeries or those who are being evaluated for surgery at the Bariatric & Metabolic Institute - Abu Dhabi of SKMC or even healthy people who would like to improve their lifestyle and broaden their knowledge to remain fit and healthy. It is worth mentioning that more than 600 individuals have attended our monthly public lectures which we started in October 2009", Dr. Al-Haddad said.

Since Bariatric Surgery started at SKMC in June 2009, 130 bariatric surgeries were successfully performed for patients who had an extended history of obesity and diseases related to obesity such as diabetes and hypertension, and had a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 40 kg/m².
