Ski Dubai teams up with Dubai Ski Club to host a team slalom challenge

Dubai - November 27th, 2007: Snow sport enthusiasts were treated to a day of high-energy skiing recently as Ski Dubai, the Middle East's first indoor ski resort, teamed up with the Dubai Ski Club to present the 'Ski Dubai Slalom Challenge'.

'Team Sweden' raced their way to the gold, followed closely by 'Team Snowsports Academy' who took second place, while 'Team Slovenia' grasped third place. First place in the individual challenge was awarded to Wolfgang Tomas from 'Team Snowsports Academy' as he edged ahead of Z. Anic of 'Team Bosnia and Herzegovina' who was the first runner-up and Joakim Jorfors from 'Team Sweden' who walked away with the second-runner up medal.

Slalom, an alpine-skiing discipline, is a race event that involves skiing in twists and turns between purposely-spaced sets of poles. The event took place on the impressive 400-meter-long slope at Ski Dubai with 18 teams of four adult participants, each representing a country or a specific company, racing through a 'Giant Slalom' Course.

Giselle Whiteaker, Marketing Manager at Ski Dubai, said: "Slalom races are challenging events as navigating between the poles requires skill and agility. This in turn results in an extremely enjoyable spectator sport hence Ski Dubai was thrilled to host this challenge. The event was a huge success with all participants thoroughly enjoying showing off their unique skills and competing against each other on the slopes. We are already looking forward next year's event!" 

The event was co-organized by the Dubai Ski Club, an independent ski club that hosts social and sporting events for its members - focusing on skiing, snowboarding and leisure in the Middle East.
