Last week saw Auction Alliance Middle East conduct a record breaking movables auction for the prestigious 5 star Sheraton Hotel in Muscat, Oman. Auction Alliance opened their Middle Eastern regional Office in Dubai and has been conducting auctions in the U.A.E, Kuwait and now in the neighboring kingdom of Oman.

More than 7000 items were sold by the Auction Alliance gavel in one day, including beds, lamps, chairs, tables, luggage racks and boards, sofas, TV's, chairs, mini-bars, full gym equipment and laundry machines.

Even though the auction was the first of its kind in Muscat, there was immense interest from buyers all over the region.

"We had over 600 people visit the viewing area over 2 days prior to the auction. On the auction day itself, we had to put out an additional 100 chairs to cater for the crowd of 350 people," said Ismail Hendricks, General Manager of Auction Alliance Middle East. "We created a friendly yet competitive environment and the buyers really enjoyed the pace and action of the auction. The people of Muscat are extremely hospitable and friendly and it's a beautiful picturesque city.

According to Auction Alliance this was the first on site movables auction in Muscat and many of the bidders had never experienced an auction sale before.

The total auction turnover amounted to several thousand Omani Riyals and 99% of all monies were collected in cash and credit card immediately after the auction. Hendricks states that the auction has proved that the auction mechanism is very popular in the Middle East and that he has received numerous enquiries from corporations wanting to sell their assets and property.
