MTE Studios presents educational monologues in association with Dubai Cultural Council and Dubai Folklore Theatre

Dubai-UAE: MTE Studios, in association with Dubai Cultural Council and Dubai Folklore Theatre present back to back science theatre with two performances 'Travelling tales of Ibn Battuta' and William Heathcote's 'Whale Nation' on the 26th of April 2007 at 8pm in Dubai Folklore Theatre next to Century Mall.

Fully clad in a Moroccan robe and turban, David Muller who plays the role of 14th century traveller will take the audience on an adventurous journey of discoveries. The play describes Ibn Battuta's incredible travel experiences while highlighting major scientific inventions made in the Muslim world in that era.

Ludo Verheyen, CEO of MTE Studios states, "Science theatre offers lessons which engross, entertain, and enlighten. Travelling tales of Ibn Battuta highlights the inventions of the past through an entertaining medium where the audience find out about the physicians in Cairo who made the first pulmonary drawing system, about the first man who tried to fly and about the elephant clock among other amazing tales."

Audience participation is encouraged by David throughout the play, whether it is to try and get them to flap their 'wings' and fly or to form a human quadrant in order to work out the direction of travel.

Yasser Al Gargawi, Head of Theatre, Cinema and Music at Dubai Cultural Council said, "We are delighted to be associated with the first of its kind science theatre performance in Dubai which highlights historical achievements from scholars of this region as well as environmental issues relating to whales. It is time we brought edutainment theatre to the UAE and I hope this is one of many performances to be staged in this field."

His thoughts are echoed by Mohammed Yousef of the Dubai Folklore Theatre who adds, "The Rihlas of Ibn Battuta have always fascinated the Arab world for decades, especially when told to as stories by our elders. Having it performed on stage as a monodrama will bring a lot of memories and we hope to have this on stage in Arabic soon."

For the second monodrama, David will perform William Heathcoat's Whale Nation, a powerful poem that celebrates the beauty and strength of the world's largest mammals, the whale. The play educates the audience of the whale's relationship to its young and its ability to communicate across vast distances among its other amazing qualities. The monologues are free to public. Schools or group bookings can be made on 0504828177.
