Customized End-to-end Solutions Help Banks Optimize EMV Migration

PARIS - SchlumbergerSema, a business unit of Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB), today announced its new EMV Lifecycle Services, customized end-to-end solutions that enable banks worldwide to optimize their EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) migration process and maximize the advantages of smart debit/credit cards. SchlumbergerSema EMV Lifecycle Services combine the company's portfolio of smart card-based products with business and technical consulting, business modelling and risk management tools, training, project management, systems integration and outsourcing.

EMV migration requires that banks change their payment card infrastructure and adopt new internal processes as they move from magnetic stripe to smart cards compliant with EMV standards. Banks, in turn, are looking to minimize migration costs and timescale, as well as leverage the new infrastructure to offer additional smart card-based services. The built-in intelligence of EMV smart debit and credit cards provides exceptional levels of transaction security and can support a wide range of services, such as loyalty, e-purse, smart ticketing and other value-add applications that offer significant advantages across the entire banking transaction chain. The SchlumbergerSema EMV Lifecycle Services help banks optimize their migration plans and deploy new services that provide long-term competitive advantages.

"Visa is pleased that SchlumbergerSema has the capability to address the needs of our member banks in all aspects of EMV migration," said James Lee, senior vice president, Emerging Technology at Visa International. "Moving to EMV requires substantial effort, and our member banks need professional support from companies such as SchlumbergerSema during the entire process."

With a dozen EMV migration projects completed worldwide and many more in progress, SchlumbergerSema leverages its broad smart card portfolio, point-of-sale terminals, personalization services, payment card management systems and front-office platforms to streamline the co-ordination and provision of the entire EMV-based service infrastructure. As part of its EMV Lifecycle Services, SchlumbergerSema applies its strong consultancy expertise across the banking service supply chain to evaluate each banking customer's strengths and goals. The company then customizes the bank's business and risk management models to support its long-term business strategy.

"As banks recognize the potential of smart cards to deliver new services to an increasingly demanding customer base, their initial focus on the tactical practicalities of migration will be replaced by concerns about the post-migration future," said Hubert Tardieu, president, Finance, SchlumbergerSema. "Our job is to utilize our extensive product and service offering to provide customized solutions that enable our customers to leverage the smart card platform to differentiate themselves, grow their customer base and retain long term market share."

With more than 20 years experience in the financial sector, SchlumbergerSema offers one of the strongest and most extensive portfolios of EMV solutions. The company is the worldwide leader of microprocessor cards, has sold more than 2.5 billion smart cards to date, has an installed base of 750,000 POS units and over 100 payment card management systems, and builds on its track record of EMV migration consulting projects worldwide. With its extensive international network of offices and partners, SchlumbergerSema is able to offer its customers fully customized solutions, complete with local customer support.
