4D Models Enhance Costs and Budgets for Complex Offshore Projects

Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is realizing Saudi Vision 2030 energy goals with advanced offshore construction technology, experts announced today in the build-up to ADIPEC 2016.

Saudi Vision 2030 aims to increase oil and gas localization from 40 percent to 75 percent. Supporting these energy goals, leading Middle East’s leading firms are driving investment in technology.

“Constructing complex oil and gas platforms and pipelines requires precision technology, from modeling to fabrication and erection. Building Information Modeling is the biggest game-changer for constructing complex offshore projects on time and on budget,” said Anwar Al Qwasmi, General Manager for Saudi Arabia at global offshore construction technology company Trimble Solutions.

The National Petroleum Construction Company, which recently was awarded four offshore contracts in the Kingdom, has used Trimble’s Tekla Structures building information modeling (BIM) software to model offshore projects across four dimensions in an open file format. Offshore players can visualize designs in real-time to avoid clashes, and optimize steel production and maintenance.

Demonstrating BIM’s value, the global BIM market is set to grow four-fold from USD 3 billion in 2014 to USD 12 billion by 2022, according to a recent report by Transparency Market Research.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia demonstrates technology best practices in oil and gas construction, helping to increase productivity, enhance collaboration, and eliminate waste. As a result, offshore construction is now safer, and more sustainable and profitable,” added Anwar Al Qwasmi.

At ADIPEC, experience demos of the latest BIM offshore solutions at the Trimble stand 5370.
