Amman - April 1, 2009, Millennium Energy Industries (MEI), a leading international solar solutions company operating in Jordan and the region, announced today the successful operation of its large scale solar space heating and hot water project at Safeway Airport Road (7th Circle)/TSC. The system has been operable since January of this year with high efficiency translating into great savings in fuel (up to 90% compared with last year's numbers for the same period) since its installation, and during the coldest months of the year.

The system is designed to fully provide space heating for the facility's total area of    13,000 m², using the existing conventional diesel fired boiler as a backup, the conventional system has been operating minimally, around 10% of the time, since the completion of the project. The new system also provides Safeway with a total of 12,000 liters of hot water daily used for food production and domestic purposes to result in 100% savings in fuel consumption in the summer and 70% savings around the year.

"We would like to congratulate Safeway/TSC for having the biggest solar space heating project in the MENA region," said Engineer Hisham Mikhi, General Manager of MEI. "With the system operating with high efficiency, and payback period of 3 years, we once more prove that solar energy in our region is both technically and economically feasible."

"The project was executed in 6 weeks from design stage to full completion with zero disturbance to the client's operation." Engineer Mikhi added.

Mr. Abdulla El-Jazara, GM at Safeway/TSC said: "We are not only saving greatly on fuel consumption here, we are also in a better position to project our energy cost in the future without worrying much about energy prices fluctuations."
