RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (November 5, 2000) - Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) is hosting a series of technical symposiums on Injection Molding and Blown Film Processes, with the active participation of its polymer customers in the Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt. Four symposiums on Injection Molding were held in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dubai and Cairo during October, and two on the Blown Film Process would be held later this month in Riyadh and Jeddah.
The seminars are part of a SABIC campaign to provide training for its customers and promote its polymer products. The main objective of these seminars is to help the processing industries to gain a thorough understanding of the Injection Molding and Blown Film processes, with special emphasis on troubleshooting. Technical topics addressed at these meetings include polymer chemistry, injection molding and blown film machines parts and performance, the molding and blowing processes and the factors affecting their operation.
SABIC wants to forge closer and stronger relationships with its polymer customers in the Kingdom, the Gulf and other Arab countries at a time when plastic products are replacing conventional and natural raw materials such as wood, rubber, metals and glass. The plastics industry in the region is achieving rapid growth, and SABIC seeks to achieve maximum integration between basic and downstream industries in the region.
SABIC, the Middle East's leading petrochemical company, is also a major player in the global polymer industry. It is increasing its polymer production capacity this year by about 2 million metric tons per year (mt/y), to a total of over 4 million mt/y. Its product portfolio includes all of the world's most widely used polymers: linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polystyrene (PS), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and other polyester products and melamine. In Saudi Arabia, SABIC has been the driving force behind the development of the national plastics industry.
