Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it is in process to establish a detour to facilitate the traffic movement on Al Itihad road in the framework of a comprehensive improving project started in last January and to be completed at January 2008, at the road from Al Shola Roundabout getting through AL Qeyadah roundabout and AL Mulla Plaza roundabout, at a total cost of AED 480 million.

Eng Maitha Mohammad Bin Adai CEO of Traffic and Road agency said that the establishing of the new detour comes within the framework of the RTA to provide alternative and safe passages for the residents of the surrounding road users and pedestrians during the implementation the implementation phases without affecting the existing traffic routes. The execution process has been amended to be done in phases so that road users could use the road directly after being implemented to avoid traffic congestion.

She expected the first phase of the project (the road between Abu Hail area and Al Nahda) to be completed and open to traffic during the month of August 2007, and the completion of the bridge between AL Quds Road to AL Itihad road in the direction of Dubai during the month of October 2007. Pedestrian crossing will be also established where it is required.

She pointed out that all necessary improvements have been done for this detour to ensure safe and smooth movement for all and to provide easy passing by establishing additional number of temporary traffic lights in the project and neighboring areas to control the traffic and facilitate the movement.  

She explained that the detour has been divided into three stages, two of which are initials will be implemented within five months from April to August 2007, while a third stage which is the main will be implemented in thirteen months started from September 2007 and last in October 2008, while the project in general will be implemented gradually on several stages to ensure smooth traffic movement and that will be coordinated with all related projects to ensure that the work on any of them will affect the other.

Eng Maitha has called on all road users to abide by the limited speeds, and to follow the instructions and the traffic signs and to use the alternative roads to avoid the traffic congestion during implementation of the project.
