18% of applicants passed test in January
Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) policy emphasizes on efficiency, skill and the commitment to the rules and regulations of traffic as a prerequisite to obtain the driving license in Dubai, as driving vehicles is a human behavior concerns the life of driver and other road users and properties as well.
This was stated by Eng Maitha Mohammad Bin Adai CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency who noted that the while RTA vision is to achieve safe and smooth transport for all and to facilitate and ease the procedures of obtaining the driving license by citizens and residents in Dubai which turns to be part of their life needs, but this right should be given should be given to eligible and qualified applicants only as a part of its comprehensive strategy to improve the traffic solutions in the Emirate as recent study showed a remarkable increase in the number of traffic accidents during the past years, and showed also that driver was the main cause of these accidents.
She pointed out that while RTA devotes on improving the traffic rules in the Emirate is taking various factors in consideration including the access to the best international practices and the experiences witch could be applied locally specially for drivers and vehicles tests, as an effort by the RTA to cope with the social and economic plans in Dubai.
While commenting on the results of a recent statistic issued by the licensing department on the number of applicants to obtain driving license in Dubai during January 2007, she said that that the number of applicants were 18421 only 18% of them have succeeded, while 5235 didn't show up.
She said that the statistics which included applicants for all vehicle categories has shown that 3352 have passed the test while 15067 have failed. The number of applicants for light driving licens are 14725 about 2685 of whom have succeeded and 12040 have failed.
Although the number of applicants for heavy vehicles "trucks" was 1667 only, the number of those who have succeeded hit 297 people only while 1370 have failed.
