Traffic & Roads Authority- Mohammed Al Munji: The Board of Directors of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) endorsed in a session chaired by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the RTA, awarding two contracts one for upgrading & beautification of roads at Al Nahdah II, and another for constructing Al Qudrah Bridge Intersection at Dubai Bypass Road, at a cost of around Dh205 million. These integrated projects are part of RTA efforts to eliminate traffic jams & bottlenecks in the emirate.
Al Tayer revealed that Upgrading & Beautification of Al Nahdah II Project at a cost of Dh118, which has been awarded to Emirates Roads Contracting Company, includes constructing new arterial roads extending 5 km, 19 km local roads, 25 new car parks, and 7 new roundabouts in the area.
He added that the project also includes constructing a light signal-controlled intersection at Amman Road, through which Al Nahdah I & Al Nahdah II will be linked, in addition to infrastructure works required in the area of the project such as water, electricity & telephone lines as well as rainwater drainage system, sewage system and road-lighting network. "Constructing this project is part of the keen attention of the RTA to upgrade & develop internal residential areas of the city of Dubai, which is based on the master development plan adopted by the RTA for road construction in residential areas to match the requirements of demographic growth & urban expansion in the emirate".
The Chairman & Executive Director of the RTA pointed out that Al-Qudrah Bridge Intersection Project, which will cost Dh87 million, has been awarded to Wade Adams Co. It comprises construction of a main bridge bound to Al-Qudrah Road across Dubai Bypass Road, consisting of three lanes in each direction with a possibility of widening the bridge in future to four lanes so as to allow for a free & safe traffic passage at both the Bypass Road & Al-Qudrah Road.
"This project is part of RTA drive to upgrade & develop main road network in the emirate, and a supplement to Phase III of the Bypass Road Project, currently underway at a cost of Dh363 million, extending 24 km from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road".
Al Tayer further stated that the work in Dubai Bypass Road is progressing at a good tempo and will be completed on schedule. Phase II of the project includes widening the existing road, which extends 23 km from the outskirts of the emirate of Sharjah up to Al Raweeiya Intersection at Dubai-Al Ain Road, from two to three lanes in each direction at a total cost of Dh295 million.
The last Phase of Dubai Bypass Road, which will cost around Dh289 million, includes constructing a dual carriage expressway of six lanes at each direction. It extends 25 km from Jebel Ali-Al Hebab Road up to the outskirts of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, linking Al Maktoum International Airport & Dubai Industrial City. It also includes constructing 3 camel crossings which could be used turning points, as well as conduits of drainage water, utility pipes, metal rails, safety fence and lighting works.
