Mr. Jafar to speak on current upheaval in the Middle East and importance of transparency and accountability
Raza Jafar, CEO of Enshaa PSC, has been invited to the 'Global Leader Forum' in New York on 28th February.
The Conference - a 'Global Leaders Forum' - will be held on February 28th (International Corporate Philanthropy Day) in partnership with the United Nations. It is put together by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), the only international forum of business CEOs and chairpersons focused exclusively on corporate philanthropy, and this year's conference - entitled Business at its Best: Maximising Long-Term Profitability and Societal Impact - will devote much of its time to assessing global progress on the UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Mr. Jafar, who is passionate about the MDGs, will join Badr Jafar from the Pearl Initiative, Talal Al Zain from Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, Varouj Nerguizian from Bank of Sharjah, Kris Gopalakrishnan from Infosys Technologies, and Iyad Malas from Majid Al Futtaim as representing the GCC region, and hopes to use the platform to push for greater transparency and accountability in the region.
"The world has its eyes trained on the Middle East right now, fascinated and not always sure how to interpret these fast-moving changes", he said.
Mr. Jafar added, "Understanding why these popular movements have arisen is even more important than trying to predict where they will go; they are the manifestations of people feeling empowered to expect more of their governments...a move towards the accountability and transparency in public service and business which some other parts of the world take for granted."
"These are the principles I am committed to, and I look forward to a vigorous debate on these issues at the CEO Conference, and giving my thoughts on how we ensure the lessons of this fascinating chapter in history are not lost".
Mr. Jafar is well placed to speak on these events, with the perspective of both the insider and the observer; public sector as well as private. As well as being managing director of EIG - an investment company based in the UAE with interests in the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions in financial services, real estate, trading, industry and aviation - he is also Pakistan's Honorary Investment Counsellor in the UAE, promoting and advising on bilateral business opportunities between the two countries.
CECP has great reach too. With 175 global CEO members, it represents nearly 50% of total corporate giving in the United States. Its Board of Boards CEO Conference brings together CEOs from companies in tens of countries, with missions including a commitment to corporate philanthropy and social responsibility.
The Conference will take place at the McGraw-Hill headquarters in New York, from 9am to 9pm, and include a meeting at the UN with ECOSOC delegates, and a dinner at the UN with Ambassadors to the US of the represented countries.
