Doha, Qatar - April 20, 2011: Qatar Project Management (QPM), one of the region's premier project management companies and the first Qatari firm in the field, has contributed its expertise as the main Project Management Partner at Construction Week's 2011 World Cup Conference. The event took place on April 20th at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha, and hosted various international speakers who explored diverse topics of discussion.
Organized by Construction Week Magazine, the conference was defined by its slogan, which aimed to "Drive the Debate" and "Shape the Industry" in relation to the 2022 sporting event. This unrivalled networking forum provided industry professionals the opportunity to enhance Qatar's infrastructure, legal, and construction sectors. QPM was the Project Management Partner for this unique conference and several of the company's experts contributed to the forum. Split into two streams, the conference agenda provided an interactive platform that allowed attendants to discuss and debate the strategic elements required to deliver a successful FIFA World Cup event in Qatar.
QPM supported some of the key conference activities, including an opening speech by QPM's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Nasser AbdulRahman Kamal; a panel discussion on the future of project management, led by QPM's HSE Manager Wayne Harris; and a technical presentation on Net-Zero Carbon Stadiums: The Challenges and Solutions by Salah Nezar, QPM's MEP Manager.
Mr. Kamal's opening speech focused on the unprecedented opportunities and challenges that are apart of Qatar's vision for 2022, including the importance of quality and sustainability while promoting advocacy in the industry. "The challenges are vast as we motion toward 2022, as organizations like ours will have to manage the transformation of the country's infrastructure and building practices," explained Mr. Kamal. "The focus of the international community is centered on Qatar--as all forms of commerce endeavor to achieve the ambitious goals that will facilitate this iconic event. The collective efforts of every company, regardless of its size or sector, will be pivotal in elevating Qatar's development to new heights. Ultimately, promoting leading industry standards and advocacy are will ensure that 2022 is defined by excellence."
A panel discussion on the future of project management, moderated by QPM's HSE Manager Wayne J. Harris attracted a lot of interest from the region's leading developers and contractors who shared their views on the importance of project management in delivering developments on time, within budget, and in adherence to the highest standards of quality. Some of the key conclusions of the debate were that project management would be an integral component of Qatar's future due to the magnitude and complexity of future projects, and the need to place quality as a driver for success.
Salah Nezar, QPM's MEP Manager and his exploration of Net-Zero Carbon Stadiums also inspired a lot of passionate discussions about the sustainable opportunities ahead. Among the key insights delivered in the speech was regarding innovation and how modern developments enable companies to take fully integrated construction approaches towards Net-Zero energy building. The three pillars Mr. Nezar elaborated on were cooling loads optimization, energy-efficiency implementation, and energy generation.
