Doha, July 10th 2011: Thirty computers and 3 colour printers have been donated by the Qatar Marine Festival Organising Committee (QMFOC) to the Qatari families through the Social Development Centre (SDC).

The donation ceremony took place at the SDC headquarters and was attended by SDC Manager of Social Services and Studies Department Ms. Wadha Saeed Al-Romaihi, SDC Marketing and PR Manager Ms Manar Rashid Al Dossari, QMFOC Manager of Information Technology Mr. Thamer Mesaad Al Qadi and QMFOC Manager of Communications and PR Mr Rashid Al Binali.

The donation took place as part of the QMFOC's support of environmental responsibility through re-use and recycle initiatives. "There are many existing computer collection programs around the world, however, similar recycling initiatives in Qatar are still new and infrequent," said QMFOC Manager of Communications and PR Mr. Rashid Al Baniali. "This is a field that needs great development and all organisations in Qatar should make efforts to act responsibly towards the environment and our society. QMFOC sees it as its direct responsibility to act in solidarity with the national efforts to develop a self-reliant and active community. With this modest contribution to the Social Development Centre, we support the vision of a Qatari society, in which people from all walks of life are equipped with adequate tools and resources that prepare them to confidently utilise the opportunities provided by the vast global information network of the 21st century."

The Social Development Centre was selected for this donation as they run a number of specialised programs that aim to assist families in Qatar in developing skills and capacity to become self-sufficient and active contributors to the Qatari society. The computers donated by QMFOC will be allocated to the families who need them helping them achieve these goals.

Wadha Al-Romaihi thanked QMFOC for their contribution, "SDC is committed to educational and social support to the families and people of Qatar," stated Al-Romaihi. "Technology has become a part of our lives and the action of QMFOC is one step in ensuring that no home in Qatar is without a computer. The SDC thanks QMFOC for its constructive support through the offer of 30 computers to needy families in Qatar."
