Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry opens the 2011 Doha Trade Fair

Doha, Qatar - An excited crowd of visitors and shoppers witnessed Qatar's world record win for the largest board game, MONOPOLY at the 2011 Doha Trade Fair.

The Win

The world record for the largest MONOPOLY board game was broken by q.media events yesterday in the 'Fun Zone' at the Doha Exhibition Center. The world record is based on the physical size of the playing board and must consist of functional game pieces including die, houses and hotels, built to size. Qatar now holds the current world record for the largest MONOPOLY board which measures 216.97m², beating the previous world record which was held by Germany in 2007.

The layout, style, place names and graphics on the board are all identical to that of a published MONOPOLY board. A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ certificate was presented to q.media events by Guinness World Records Limited adjudicator, Mr. Talal Omar.

"It is really exciting to name Qatar as the new world record holder for the largest board game, MONOPOLY. I am really amazed at the standard of the board and q.media's creativity in wanting to beat this world record. MONOPOLY is a game of trade, although in property, it fits perfectly into the theme of the Doha Trade Fair. This is Qatar's nineteenth world record and it is truly an incredible achievement," said Mr Omar.

After the world record was announced, visitors watched an exciting, life-size game of MONOPOLY. The participants from q.media events stood in for the playing tokens as they competed against each other in attempt to become the most successful MONOPOLY landlord.

The award-winning board has now been opened to active Facebook Fans to play a series of MONOPOLY games. Teams of two will battle against each other as they try to gain as many MONOPOLY points as possible. The winning team will be announced on the last day, June 13, and will win the grand prize - a brand new Volkswagen Jetta.

This unique shopping experience, with over 550 exhibitors from 31 different countries, is one not to be missed. Families can enjoy the fun with the on-going entertainment including parades, inflatable rides and fun games.
