The progress of the Upper Egypt-Red Sea Road project was reviewed by the Minister of Investment, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin during his visit to Assiut. Dr. Mohieldin was accompanied by the Governor of Assiut, General Nabil El Ezaby.

Dr. Mohieldin listened to a detailed explanation on the progress of implementation which is due to be completed in September 2009. Works in Assiut connection have been completed as follows; filling up (46 percent), ordinary and rock digging (31 percent), basic layer (37 percent) and connecting layer (24 percent).

The Minister of Investment highlighted the importance of finalizing all works of the project on the deadline in September 2009.

Dr. Mohieldin was briefed on the projects to be established along the road including a bridge over the Nile to connect Aboteg and Sahel Selim with Assiut for 3.75 km and bridge over the railway line and the western road for 350 meters in addition to the free cross bridge over the eastern road for 200 meters and two bridges over El Farokeya canal for 75 meters.

The projects also include the establishment of a road over Western Assiut Plateau for 16 km, costing LE 200 million to link the Upper Egypt-Red Sea Road to Western Assiut Road.

The plan also includes the establishment of development projects such as land reclamation projects on 38 thousand acres, agricultural manufacturing complex and a dry port for logistics services.

During his visit to Assiut, Dr. Mohieldin visited the Assiut one-stop shop, which provides investment and facilitations services to investors.
