Dubai - The United Arab Emirates has a new player in the education market. Praxis, an education company based in Dubai, is expected to open its first school in September 2018 and further drive education for sustainability and global environmental justice in the region.
The formation of Praxis Education was inspired and led by Dr. Saad Al-Omari, a Kuwaiti-born, Cambridge-trained environmental scientist who is passionately dedicated to environmental education. Dr. Saad Al Omari and Praxis aim to bring education focused on eco-literacy, global environmental justice and ethics to the region. This educational vision will be embedded within the schools curriculum and reflected in every lesson and task. Through project-based and experiential learning, children will plan, collaborate, reflect and make meaningful changes to the world around them in a fully inclusive and supportive environment.
The Arbor School shall also benefit from both a scientist and artist in residence, who will inspire the whole school community to think and act differently, facilitating their engagement with environmental projects both locally and globally. In support of this vision, the school shall boast top-class facilities, using a bespoke biodome and gardens as key learning spaces to engage children in a deeper understanding of their ecology and environment.
Dr. Saad Al-Omari: Human activities are seriously impacting global climate, threatening not only ecosystems, but also economies around the world, leading to an increase of hardship in societies on every continent and on generations to come. A contemporary ethic based on compassion and responsibility towards both the human and non-human world is needed now more than ever. It is this higher ethical sense that we aim to instill in our students, in the hope that they will form a vanguard generation that can begin to reverse the harmful trajectories we see unfolding around us.
Inspired by the UAEs Vision 2021, which calls for a shift to a diversified and knowledge-based economy and a commitment to sustainability, Praxis Education aims to provide an educational offering of the highest standard.
Continues Dr. Saad Al-Omari, Dubai is a growing city of global recognition and the government has dedicated considerable resources to ensure that its schools compete favorably with the best in the world. We want to provide a style of education that lives up to these aspirations and that equips our students with the knowledge, skills and ethics required in our region and the world, within a fully inclusive and nurturing school environment.
Praxis Education is newly established and, of course, we would like to see it grow and develop in the coming years. The Arbor School is the crystallization of our passions and beliefs about what education ought to be, so we intend to put all our energy and resources into making it the best school possible, and a flagship in our region, concludes Dr. Saad Al-Omari.
The Arbor School will be located in the Al Furjan district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The school is expected to open in September 2018.
*Opening subject to building completion and final KHDA approval.
