The feature-packed Garbo Matchline offers true home cinema experience with a 16:9 picture for best display of DVDs.
DUBAI (November 14, 2002) – Philips (NYSE Symbol: PHG)announced today the launch of the new Garbo Matchline Home Cinema projector, the first affordable widescreen projector to offer a true home cinema experience.
The sleek and stylish Garbo has been optimized for video and boasts picture performance, with natural colours and high contrast, that is second to none. It projects a16:9 picture, a perfect match for inputs such as DVD movies.
“Philips is very excited about the Garbo, which we expect will quickly become one of the most successful products on the market because of its unique affordability and highest performance levels of picture quality and ease of use,” said Olivier Delahaye, Regional General Manager, Consumer Electronics, Philips Middle East and Africa.
The Garbo’s excellent value is reinforced by its ultra-long-lasting Philips UHP™ lamp which has a life span of 6,000 hours of operation and means that even after 10 years of use, chances are the lamp won’t need to be replaced. With virtually silent 27dB operation, it is the perfect home cinema system for getting the most out of films, computer games, television viewing and even Internet surfing.
The Garbo Home Cinema projector has a picture that is optimized by its high brightness level of 1100 lumens. This brightness, together with its super-high contrast level of 500:1, guarantees crisp and sparkling images in all conditions – even in full daylight. What’s more, it has the same colour temperature that is used for TV (CRT), and it achieves perfectly reproduced colours and natural, lifelike skin tones. This is partly thanks to the ColourTracking™ feature that automatically chooses the appropriate settings.
Priced at a very reasonable Dhs9,000, the Garbo Matchline radiates quality in design, touch and feel. With its compact shape, distinctive silver colour and exclusive logo, it is in line with other audio/video devices in the Matchline family and will fit seamlessly into the most sophisticated homes – now and far into the future.
True 16:9 screen ratio (widescreen)
The Garbo Matchline is one of the first real widescreen projectors. Its exact match for 16:9 sources means there is no scaling or loss of information and no sliced borders or disturbing big black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Rather, there is just maximum resolution, minimum set-up time and the best viewing experience, all of which brings it closer to a cinema-like experience than any other home entertainment system.
Excellent value for money
The Garbo’s affordable price is tuned to the consumer market. Its design also includes a special SmartSave™ feature, which automatically switches the projector off when it is not being used, saving valuable lamp life, and thus time, money and hassle.
ProntoNEO
Every Garbo Matchline comes with the unique ProntoNEO – the ultimate universal remote control for an entire home cinema system. Primed and programmed for instant use, users also can program its interface to suit their personal requirements by adding buttons, changing layouts and creating macros. It also works with all IR-controlled audio and video equipment – including all brands of colour TVs, DVD players and recorders, satellite receivers, digital set-top boxes, VCRs and multi-channel 'surround sound' hi-fi systems. Forget about a table full of separate remotes.
Picture-In-Picture
The Garbo Matchline offers special Picture-In-Picture (PIP) technology that lets users watch two programs at once, thereby (almost) putting an end to family arguments about what to watch on TV. For example, when watching a film but wanting to keep track of a football score, it’s possible to have the match playing on a second screen that will still be larger than a normal TV. A straightforward menu system lets users choose source (Video or S-Video), size (small, medium or large) and position (anywhere on the screen).
Most silent available
The Philips Garbo Matchline offers quiet running for uninterrupted home entertainment. It operates at just 27dB thanks to the groundbreaking Philips Air System (PAS™). It uses two separate air paths for optimal circulation, so the fan has less work to do and consequently makes less noise.
