Peruvian Exports Record Exponential Growth of Almost 300% to the GCC

The Trade, Tourism and Investment Office of Peru in Dubai is pleased to announce its third attendance at Gulfood, the world's biggest annual foodservice, hospitality and retail event.  Peru returns this year to make an even bigger impact with a National Pavillion and nine companies from the food sector, showcasing some of the best food products the country has to offer.  Gulfood is an opportunity for Peru to identify new business in the region and share their unique knowledge and ideas with local industry leaders.

Peru's participation at Gulfood will support the continued growth of the Peruvian food and beverage exports to the Gulf.  In 2012, Peruvian exports to the GCC grew by 300%, driven partially by the agricultural sector. Gaining recognition through its long term foundations for success, the capital city Lima has recently been ranked the 20th most dynamic city by the real estate consultancy Jones Land LaSalle's City Momentum Index, with Dubai ranked as 3rd on the same list. This achievement highlights the success of Dubai and Lima, having both met their socio-economic goals and maintaining continued long-term momentum for their commercial realty.

"Our objective for 2014 is to be able to showcase the synergy between the United Arab Emirates and Peru.  Gulfood has proven to be by far 'the exhibition' to further expand our trade into the region, and our presence as a sustainable food and beverage supplier," said Alvaro Silva Santisteban, Director of the Trade, Tourism and Investment Office of Peru in the United Arab Emirates.

The Latin American nation boasts an abundant supply of natural resources.  It is believed that the first potato and tomato took root in Peru, and the country is home to over 4,000 varieties of potato today.  Peru has the greatest number of corn and chili varieties and is internationally renowned for its asparagus, mangoes, avocadoes, grapes, beans and paprika. Much of Peruvian produce appeals to conscious consumers and food enthusiasts due to the health boosting properties of goods such as Camu Camu, a natural fruit, Maca, a root high in vitamin C and Quinoa, which has double the protein content of any other cereal in the world. Additionally, Peru boast a bounty of fresh seafood, ranking first for biodiversity of fish, squid, scallops and mahi mahi. Showcasing the best produce the country has to offer, Peruvian exhibitors will proudly offer Gulfood visitors access to authentic Peruvian organic cacao, grains, seeds, juices, fresh produce, dehydrated products and dairy products.

Peru was recently recognized for the second year in a row as the World's Leading Culinary Destination  at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2013 in Doha.  During the Gulfood exhibition, the country will be demonstrating what makes their cuisines and beverages so special, brought to life by well-known Dubai based Peruvian chef, Roberto Segura Gonzales.  Throughout the five days he will be manning a live cooking station, so visitors can have the opportunity to sample typical Peruvian dishes such as ceviche, beef anticucho, Peruvian causa and quinotto.

Moreover, Taste of Peru, a celebration of the nation's culinary delights, will be taking place in Madinat Jumeirah from 26th February to 1st March, where guests can experience the flavours of Peruvian cuisine, sampling several of these delicious dishes while enjoying live music throughout the course of the evening.
