PASADENA, CA (May 22, 2014)

Parsons announced that the Dalma Mall Improvements project in Abu Dhabi opened to traffic on May 2, 2014. Parsons provided design services for the project, and the improvements were implemented using a diverging diamond interchange (DDI)--an innovative approach in transportation design solutions. The Dalma Mall Improvements project marks the first use of DDI in the Middle East, and the solution was introduced to the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) by Parsons.

Dalma Mall is situated in one of the fastest growing areas of the capital, and it serves several new residential communities. The DDI took advantage of the existing structure, widening and retrofitting it to allow for DDI movements by using the existing bridge. By altering the configuration of the existing roundabouts and the ramps leading into it, the capacity has almost doubled, congestion will decrease, and safety will be enhanced.

"The use of the diverging diamond interchange for this project is an example of a successful collaboration between the DoT and Parsons. We are honored to have had the opportunity to support the DoT in bringing state-of-the-art, innovative transportation solutions to the United Arab Emirates," said Guy Mehula, Parsons MEA President.

Parsons has been working in the MEA region (Middle East Africa) for more than 60 years and has offices in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Parsons' portfolio of ongoing projects in the MEA region includes major highways, bridges, rail and transit, airports, ports, water infrastructure, plus hospitals, public schools, universities, mosques, and other public buildings.
