Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Orthogon Systems a leading provider of point to point broadband wireless systems, has introduced the OS Gemini Lite, a new addition to its family of products. The OS-Gemini Lite is a broadband wireless Ethernet bridge that provides the same robust functionality as the OS Gemini, but at less cost and with an end user Ethernet data rate of up to 21 Mbps.
The company has also announced the OS-Gemini 5840 software release, a free upgrade to Orthogon's flagship product, the OS Gemini. Available via Web download, the 5840 increases the product's throughput from 34 Mbps to 43 Mbps end-user Ethernet data rate.
"With the availability of the 5840 software release and the new Lite platform, the OS-Gemini product line is able to address a much broader range of customer requirements for highly reliable point-to-point connectivity," said Graham Owen, Sales and Channel Director, MEA at Orthogon Systems. "While the 5840 addresses a customer's demand for more throughput, the OS-Gemini Lite addresses another customer's demand for an entry level platform with less throughput and at a lower price point further illustrating our commitment to the MEA region, providing lower cost solutions at reduced speeds but still maintaining reliability and spectral efficiency", added Owen.
OS-Gemini Lite
In its initial release, the OS-Gemini Lite delivers up to 21 Mbps of throughput and maintains exceptional link availability, up to 99.9999%, even in Non-Line-of-Sight environments and in areas with high levels of signal interference. The platform is FCC certified, operates in the unlicensed 5.8GHz ISM band and is easy to install, configure and manage. It provides a cost-effective platform for Wireless ISPs to backhaul subscriber traffic, and for enterprise markets connecting multiple disparate networks.
"There is a significant demand for a value-priced product like this where 21 megabits of bandwidth is more than enough throughput in both the enterprise market and the rapidly growing wireless ISP market," said Leo Psara Managing Director Minerva Middle East, a primary distributor of Orthogon Systems products. "Customers in this region will find tremendous value in acquiring the robust Gemini technology at a price and data rate that suits their needs. And the ability to upgrade to the full bandwidth offered by the original Gemini product provides even greater value." When the time is right, customers can upgrade performance via a simple licensing key.
The OS-Gemini Lite employs a combination of innovative features that together enable its high reliability. These features include:
- Multi-Beam Space-Time-Coding:NLOS connections are subject to massive fading. With multi-beam space-time-coding, several data beams are sent via multiple antennas and recombined by multiple receivers to combat the severe signal fading in an NLOS environment. This provides a reliable link, even in the toughest NLOS paths, over long distances and over large bodies of water.
- Best-in-Class Radio: With high power output, large antenna gain, low noise and increased system gain, the software-defined radio is able to penetrate difficult paths.
- Intelligent OFDM: NLOS connections are subject to significant channel dispersion because of the many separate signal paths taken around obstacles. The differing time delays can cause cross interference between the transmitted signals. Intelligent OFDM allows for instant de-modulation, enabling detection of signals even in harsh weather and terrain conditions.
- Advanced Spectrum Management: intelligent Dynamic Frequency Selection (i-DFS) is at the heart of our comprehensive spectrum management capabilities. At power up and all during operation OS-Gemini Lite scans the band - 500 times a second - and automatically switches to the clearest channel.
- Adaptive Modulation: The OS-Gemini products dynamically choose the most appropriate data modulation scheme, from BPSK to 64QAM based on the received signal quality. This ensures that the radio link is continually optimized over the radio path in spite of varying link conditions, therefore providing the maximum possible throughput at all times.
- Security: The OS-Gemini products have a unique Advanced Air Interface that incorporates a proprietary data scrambling technique, as well as AES encryption.
The OS-Gemini Lite is available through our network of authorized distributors and reseller channels. The 5840 software release is available via download at www.orthogonsystems.com. Both products will be available in the Middle East and Africa region from July 1, 2005.
