MUSCAT The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) and Oman India Fertilizer Company S.A.O.C. (OMIFCO) have signed a scholarship agreement on Tuesday. "We are pleased to extend our scholarship contract with OMIFCO and thus support high school graduates who are less fortunate in our society," said Professor Dr. Burkhard Rauhut, Rector of GUtech. The agreement was signed by Professor Rauhut and Qasim Mohammed Al-Balushi, CSR Manager of OMIFCO. The company is already sponsoring three GUtech students who passed the Pre-University programme for Process Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
"We are convinced of the level of higher education at GUtech. The agreement provides a total of five scholarships for the Pre-University Programme and the Bachelor Programme in the field of Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Geosciences for Omani high school graduates of limited income and social welfare families from Sur and other wilayats of the South Sharquiya governorates from the next academic year onwards," said Qasim Al-Balushi.
OMIFCO will bear the tuition fees for the Pre-University and Bachelor programmes. The scholarships include full tuition fees, a laptop, textbooks, access to the GUtech and RWTH Aachen online library, field trips and a monthly housing allowance.
The students will also be able to apply for summer internships at OMIFCO. "We offer summer internships for Omani students. GUtech students who study on our scholarships will get a priority for these internships," said Qasim Al-Balushi. Internships are an integral part of all GUtech study-programmes.
