In Quality Management System for Procurement & Contracts

Muscat, 4 June, 2011: Omantel's Procurement and Contracts Division has received international recognition for the quality of its systems with the awarding of prestigious ISO 9001:2008 certification at an event held at the company's Muscat headquarters.

Chief Executive Dr. Amer Al Rawas was officially presented with the certification in the presence of HE Dr. Rasheed bin Al Safi Al Huraibi, Chairman of Tender Board and Mr. Sudhir Pandra-Regional Manager, Velosi Middle East, representating the internationally renowned ISO Certification authority.

The award is part of an ongoing process by Omantel to enhance its services across different areas of its business. 

Omantel's Procurement and Contracts Division is responsible for ensuring the procurement of all equipment and services required by the company to efficiently and effectively manage its operations across the Sultanate.

The Division has put procedures and processes in place to ensure that it consistently provides the best support to its suppliers and internal customers in different areas of Omantel business.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr. Amer Al Rawas said: "We are very proud to have secured this international recognition for the quality of our procurement and contracts operations.  As a business Omantel is fully committed to testing our services at the highest international level to ensure we are on a continual road of improvement".

Under the requirements of the ISO 9008:2008 certification, an organisation needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products or services and to enhance customer satisfaction in order to meet customer statutory and regulatory requirements.

Sameer Al Siyabi, Omantel's General Manager for Procurement & Contracts added: "We are very proud to be part of a procurement team that follows ISO 9001 certified processes. This international certification will encourage us to maintain our commitment to ensuring we make continuous improvements in our day to day departmental activities."

As part of the certification process the Procurement and Contracts Division has now established a quality management system in line with the ISO 9001:2008 and this system was implemented by ensuring continuous improvement based on feedback and suggestions from our internal customers and suppliers.

To ensure the quality management system was undertaken in accordance with international standards, Omantel engaged VQMI, an external auditor to audit our implementation.  VQMI has assessed and found that our QMS is in compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 and has ensured the completion of the certification process.

Speaking on behalf of the ISO certification body, Mr. Sudhir Pandra, Regional Manager Middle East, Velosi  said: "It is a great honour to be able to present one of Oman's leading and longest established companies with this international recognition that rewards all the hard work Procurement and Contracts Team have undertaken."

It is note worthy that, the ISO 9001:2008 certification is the second prestigious ISO recognition the Omantel has received this year. Earlier in 2011 Omantel became the first telecommunication company in the GCC to have its Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Core services certified under internationally ISO 27001 standards
