During the 2nd day of Drug Discovery Conference at HCT-Dubai

DUBAI - Delegates of the 5th International Conference on Drug Discovery & Therapy and 2nd Biotechnology World Congress attended on the 2nd day plenary lectures by Nobel Laureates and session lectures by eminent scientists.

Two illuminating plenary lectures were delivered by Prof. Dr. Ferid Murad, Nobel Laureate, highlighted the discovery of the first biological effects of nitric oxide and how the field has evolved. He also discussed about the current and future researches based on novel drug development and the creation of numerous projects in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Prof. Dr. Jean-Marie Lehn explained the features of Supramolecular Chemistry. He specifically mentioned it as a Dynamic Chemistry. Applications of these approaches to biological systems and drug discovery were further discussed in his lecture.

Recent findings of eminent speakers exclusively on CNS Drug Discovery & Therapy, High-throughput Screening & Laboratory Automation, Pharmaceutical Research & Development, Chemistry, Women's Health Drug Discovery and Therapy, Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery & Therapy and Natural Products, were also tackled in the conferences.

Dr. W. Gibson Wood outlined in his lecture the unexpected finding that simvastatin in vivo stimulates brain gene and protein expression of Bcl-2 and endothelin-1 and both play pivotal roles in pro-survival pathways. This was followed by lectures from Dr. Masashi Sakai on synaptic mechanism in the primary auditory cortex (ai) underlying voice-onset time (vot) dependent categorical perception, proving its relevance to language specific language impairment. Moreover, Dr. Thomas Neumann highlighted the significance of high throughput fragment based drug discovery by SPR imaging of chemical microarrays.

Furthermore, some informative lectures were also delivered by Dr. Asier Unciti-Broceta and Dr. Masahiko Seiki. In other sessions, Dr. Jamed W. Lillard Jr., Piero Procacci, Dr. Michael C. Pirrung and Dr. Alice I. Yu contributed their research works.

Key lectures on Medical Imaging , Women's Health Drug Discovery and Therapy  were delivered by Dr. Thomas Baum, while focus on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery & Therapy was presented by Dr. Frank Gansauge and Dr. Riyaz Basha, who gave a briefing on the strategies relating to cancer treatment.

Simultaneously, parallel lectures under the banner of the 2nd Biotechnology World Congress were delivered on Plant & Environment, Business Development, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Industrial & Manufacturing. Dr. Udo Seiffert highlighted comprehensive, non-invasive, and quantitative monitoring of the health and nutrition state of crop plants. From the sphere of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Dr. Mingde Xia drew out the Innovation in translational medicine and diversified healthcare business, whereas Dr. George Sakellaris shared his views on the current economic crisis in Europe and the United States and how they intended to release official documents keeping in view bioeconomy as the key element for smart and green growth. Dr. Hartmut Grammel and S. Sivakami discussed their researches on bioprocess engineering & optimization and industrial enzymes, respectively.
