DM distributes 7,000 cloth bags and 30.000 awareness leaflets

12 September 2013: As part of promoting the concept of sustainable development and to campaign for reducing the  use of plastic carry bags Dubai Municipality waste management department has organized a mobile exhibition, which is a main component of the No To Plastic Bags drive started months ago.

Eng. Salah Amiri, Assistant director Of Dubai Municipality said the campaign was launched to raise awareness on the bad impacts of plastic on the environment and to help them reduce its usage.

"We are educating how the plastic harms human health as well as the surroundings and to make them think of alternatives that can be produced locally" Mr. Salah Amiri said.

'We are also focusing how each individual is responsible for harming or preserving our environment through the activities', he added.

Eng. Abdul Majeed Saifaie who is the director of waste management department at the civic body said as part of the third  phase activities, the awareness team has organized a mobile exhibition that visited various shopping complexes and other organizations to spread the message.

"People were positive while hearing to our officials describing the harmful effects plastic culture carries with. Many were highly interested to know about the alternatives" Mr. Saifaie said.

He said Union Co-operative Societies and Carrefour Group include where exhibition was conducted in this phase.

Hassain Gulam, head of administrative support section at the department said the campaign team has distributed 7,000 cloth bags and near about 30,000 leaflets that describing plastic threat, during the campaign.
