Airbus will introduce a new state-of-the-art cockpit on the A350, embracing the latest in flight deck technology through the incorporation of A380 innovations and all new functions.  The application of the latest technologies and improved ergonomics, provide increase cockpit interactivity, improve safety and efficiency, and reduce pilot workload while maintaining commonality with Airbus' fly-by-wire family of aircraft.

The new A350 cockpit has been designed to offer an optimal balance between commonality and technology integration, two aspects which are central to Airbus' cockpit philosophy. It incorporates the most up to date technologies while ensuring that the aircraft stays within the same type rating as the A330 family.

Airbus has worked, and continues to work closely with pilots in evolving and designing the new A350 flight deck which offers a user-friendly, technically advanced cockpit that enables them to operate in the most efficient and safe manner.

The A350 cockpit benefits from a number of features including A380 Interactive Displays. The Multi-Functional Display screen will play a key role as a user-friendly interface, with a more intuitive arrangement of functions accessible via menus, which will simplify flight management for pilots and gives greater flexibility. In addition, there is a new electronic interface for system status, which enables a more fluid, more intuitive and dynamic interaction between pilot and system. It will also allow a better management of abnormal situations without the need for paper. As for the A380, this electronic checklist is in line with Airbus' paperless concept. The aircraft will also provide full class III Electronic Flight Bag functionality via two large Onboard Information Terminal screens and keyboards.

Like on the A380, the Navigation Displays of the A350 will feature a Vertical Display, which provides a vertical cut of the real terrain profile and weather that the aircraft will face on its flight plan.

The A350 cockpit will also offer all-new advanced technologies. These include Brake-to-Vacate, a new Airbus patented technology which allows pilots to select an appropriate runway exit when landing and regulate the aircraft's speed and deceleration accordingly. This in turn optimises runway occupancy time, reduces fuel consumption, saves on wear of tyres and breaks, and increases passenger comfort. Also included is an Autopilot Traffic Collision Avoidance System, that offers additional protection compared to conventional TCAS systems.

The A350 Family was launched in October 2005 and has already received 176 orders and commitments from 13 customers.
