Leading regional networking distributor enhances its product lines from Transition, Nordx, Molex and Symbol
Dubai, February 2004: OnLine Distribution, the Middle East’s leading distributor for networking products and solutions, has announced the availability of several new products from some of its vendors.
“We work with our vendors to introduce new technology that enhances functionality of enterprise network systems and its managers in this region,” said Keith Rich, MD, OnLine Distribution.
OnLine’s vendor, Transition Networks, the conversion technology expert, announced the unveiling of the industry's first remotely managed chassis-based RS-232 copper-to-fiber media converter. In addition to the chassis card, a stand-alone version is available to remotely manage the fiber connection to the chassis card, allowing a completely manageable RS-232 link at distances up to 80 km over fiber optic cable. Key features of the RS-232 include local or remote loop-back on both copper and fiber optic cable, read/write access via software to both chassis card and stand-alone unit, and Unit and Port LEDs for local status of each converter. A DTE/DCE switch eliminates the frustration over selecting the correct cable and can be used with both straight-through and cross-over cables.
Transition also released four new additions to its “Just Convert-It” line of media converters. Transition's Just Convert-It line offers customers a lower-cost, no frills alternative to full-featured converters while maintaining the same quality and lifetime warranty that Transition provides on all its products.
"As an ongoing effort to offer our customers the utmost flexibility and to tailor product options to their needs, Transition is pleased to offer these Just Convert-It line extensions and new releases," said Bill Schultz, VP of marketing for Transition Networks.
OnLine has also introduced the new LC version of NORDX/CDT’s very successful Optimax optical fibre field installable connector.
According to Nordx/CDT, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cable Design Technologies (CDT) Corporation, this connector is the only no-epoxy/no-polish field installable connector to feature a spring-loaded ferrule, allowing the connector to be mated with any LC connector on the market. It is part of the industry's Small Form Factor high density family of connectors. The patented Optimax LC Connector also features a pre-radiused PC ceramic ferrule which ensures contact with optical fibres, improves durability, and provides high performance connections.
The Optimax LC is available in 50 µm and 62.5 µm multimode, as well as single mode versions, and completes the IBDN LC component offering as part of the IBDN FiberExpress Solutions and our IBDN Certified Systems.
Molex, another one of OnLine’s vendors and a leader in its field, has introduced the Real Time™ Patching System. It utilises an auto-discovery system to document network connectivity, in Real Time, using a centralised database. This database may be interrogated by technicians, to accurately identify circuits, and to provide confirmation of accurate patching. It can automatically inform the network manager of any undesired changes to the network infrastructure, with the database generating remedial work orders
“We have noticed that managing the patching in a telecommunications room can be time consuming, with detailed paperwork required,” pointed out Venu Menon, Divisional Director, Network Infrastructure & Auto ID division of OnLine Distribution. “Technicians often have no feedback on the accuracy of their work. Inaccurate documentation vastly complicates fault-finding, and can delay the implementation of business continuity procedures.”
According to Menon, the Molex Real Time™ Patching System provides accurate moves and changes with feedback to the technician which, in turn, results in the delivery of a higher level of service from a company’s network. The automatic change notifications created by Real Time can be customised, prioritised and integrated with existing management tools such as helpdesks, reducing response times and enhancing security. It also reduces expenditure on network hardware.
OnLine has also introduced MC9000-G from Symbol. Far more than a new mobile computer, the Symbol MC9000-G provides a platform for a full systems-level solution based on Symbol's core competencies of advanced data capture, mobile computing and wireless networking. It incorporates peripherals, accessories, software tools and services that can be tailored to a wide range of vertical market needs – everything from manufacturing and retail to wholesale distribution and third-party logistics (3PL). It provides real-time access to mission-critical information from key points in the supply chain -- from the factory to the floor to the field.
Key applications for the Symbol MC9000-G include inventory management, price verification, shipping/receiving, warehouse management, shop floor data capture and baggage reconciliation. Key benefits include real-time visibility into mission-critical needs such as information sharing, improved data accuracy, increased worker productivity and financial efficiency.
A large 3.8-inch display, available in either colour or monochrome, a selection of field replaceable backlit keypads and integrated Bluetooth wireless communications are additional options enabling customers to select a configuration for their specific business applications. Also, the RS232/USB client or wireless LAN capabilities deliver multiple communications options.
