Leading regional networking distributor enhances its product lines from Avocent, Nordx, Trend Micro, 3Com and Symbol

Dubai, 09 March 2004: OnLine Distribution, the Middle East’s leading distributor for networking products and solutions, has announced the availability of several new products from its vendors, Avocent, Nordx, Trend Micro, 3Com and Symbol.

All these new products are available through OnLine Distribution and its network of resellers throughout the Middle East.

Trend Micro, NetworkVirusWall 1200

Trend Micro, a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, has introduced its Network VirusWall™ 1200 outbreak prevention appliance designed to scan, detect, and block threats from inside a company network.  Using threat-specific knowledge from Trend Micro, NetworkVirusWall 1200 allows security administrators to block network viruses and identify vulnerable or non-compliant networked devices to help mitigate or even eliminate their ability to be a propagation point for internal outbreaks.

Network VirusWall 1200 is a revolutionary outbreak prevention appliance from Trend Micro, designed to detect and block network viruses found within data packets passing through the network itself and to enable network security administrators to control or limit network access by non-compliant or vulnerable devices. This appliance, deployed at network LAN segments, includes network monitoring features to help identify sources of infection, providing enterprises with early warning of potential attacks.

Network VirusWall 1200 is the latest product to support Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy. With this launch, Trend Micro also introduces Trend Micro Vulnerability Assessment, which allows administrators to selectively isolate vulnerable devices from the rest of the network, buying valuable time for administrators to identify and patch these vulnerable systems without disrupting other network operations. Through Trend Micro Control Manager™ 3.0 and Trend Micro’s Outbreak Prevention Services, Network VirusWall 1200 also helps administrators enforce security policies through one centrally managed location.

Symbol WS 2000 Wireless Switch (WS 2000)

Symbol Technologies, another one of OnLine’s vendors, introduced a new wireless switch designed to dramatically lower enterprise costs of deploying, managing, and maintaining Wi-Fi mobile networks in the branch office. The Symbol WS 2000 Wireless Switch (WS 2000) provides a single system encompassing the security, management, and mobility capabilities necessary to create an enterprise class Wi-Fi wireless network. The WS 2000, which simplifies infrastructure deployments, can be centrally managed from network operation centres (NOCs) and replicated across multiple site locations for network design consistency. This centralized wireless architecture, pioneered by Symbol, has gained significant industry recognition.

The Symbol WS 2000 is designed for wireless environments and applications at the branch office, powering wireless point-of-sale and merchandise management applications in retail stores as well as driving mobile checkout and public Wi-Fi "hot spot" applications in franchise restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, convenience stores, gas-stations and more.

Avocent LongView Wireless

The Avocent LongView Wireless is the world’s first wireless keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) extender. It can wirelessly connect monitors (VGA, SVGA and XGA), keyboards, mice and audio devices to any computer, up to 100 feet away. LongView Wireless, based on the 802.11a standard and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), connects directly to target devices. It serves as the radio interface link so the computer can transmit secure audio and high-resolution video data through walls – all without VGA cables.

In addition, the Avocent LongView Wireless comes with Plug-and-play installation which requires no new operating system, drivers or application software, and convenient graphical OSD features for making adjustments and tuning the video settings.

3Com Router 5000 and Router 3000 series

3Com recently announced that it is the first and only vendor offering wide area network (WAN) routers with proven interoperability with Cisco routers verified by an independent test organization, The Tolly Group. The "Tolly Verified" certification, supported by intensive testing, provides the opportunity for enterprise network buyers to evaluate products on an objective basis and gain the confidence that products support industry-accepted protocols and deliver interoperability. These Tolly Verified tests mean that customers and partners have verification that the 3Com® Router 5000 series and Router 3000 series interoperate in a network of Cisco routers.

The new 3Com Router 5000 family is a set of mid-range routers and the 3Com Router 3000 family is a set of remote office routers - the first two series of new routers that 3Com delivered in 2003 as part of a range of 3Com routers that will continue to expand in 2004.

3Com's range of routers is designed to offer enhanced WAN and secure Internet services to large, mid-sized and smaller enterprises. As full-functioned routers to control traffic flows between sites on a WAN, the 3Com routers support Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic prioritization, necessary for converged voice networks, and include VPN (virtual private network) and encryption support for tight security.

The Tolly Group performed a series of independently-developed tests to validate interoperability of 3Com's Router 5000 family and Router 3000 family with the Cisco 1750 Router and Cisco IOS 12.x. The Tolly Group testing verified Cisco interoperability with a number of router functions, including IP V1 & V2, IP OSPF, IPX, VRRP, 802.1p/Q, IP multicast, VPN and many more functions. The testing also revealed that the 3Com Router 5009 has superior performance to the Cisco 1750 Router, according to The Tolly Group. All of the test results and the details about The Tolly Group test methodology are available on The Tolly Group's Web site www.tolly.com.
