DUBAI, 13 November 2006: The Election Management Committee (EMC) held a training program for the seven emirates sub-committees members yesterday and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) premises, Deira. The program comes as part of a series of initiatives set to train and guide human recourses working on the FNC elections that will take place on December 16, 18, and 20 of this year.

The training session was given by Dr. Saeed Al Ghafli, Assistant Secretary-General of the FNC Affairs Ministry and Emirates sub-committee coordinator and D'aje Khalifa Albinjasem, FNC election consultant. Heads of the emirates subcommittees attended the training session including Hamad Obaid Al Sharyani, Head of the Abu Dhabi Election Committee, HE Ahmed Mohammed bin Hmaidan, Head of Dubai Election Committee,  Sultan Ali bin Buti Al Muheiri, Head of the Sharjah Election Committee, Saeed Saif Al Matroushi, Head of the Ajman Committee, Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Head of the Ras Al Khaimah Election Committee, Mohammed Saeed Al Dahnani, Head of the Fujeirah Election Committee and Chancellor Rashed Jumaa Humaid, Head of the Umm Al Quwain Election Committee.

This program is the first phase of a number of sessions set for members of the committees, executive employees in the committees, volunteers, students from the Higher Colleges of Technology and Election centre supervisors technicians. 

Dr. Al Ghafli said: " The NEC seeks through the training programs and workshops to prepare, develop and train the human element in the elections since it has a key role in interacting with the Electoral College (EC) whether the members are voters or candidates. The sub-committees play a central role due to its direct contact with the Electoral College (EC) members in the election process."

Dr. Al Ghafli explained that the training program is related to the executive procedures taken by the sub-committees, "The subcommittees will be responsible for taking the applications from candidates between November 19th and 20th. The training program covers the logistical preparations that should be available in the committees headquarters and the different phases including applying elections or for the media plan and the appeals," said Dr. Al Ghafli.

Dr. Al Ghafli also reviewed the application forms for the election process with the committees, means of dealing with different types of application, and explained the election time line and managing each phase efficiently.

Established by presidential decree in December 2005, the National Elections Committee is assigned to supervise the upcoming elections scheduled to take place in December 16, 18, and 20 of 2006.
