Spotlights the strategic role played by NCSI in spreading social & economic statistical knowledge throughout all levels of society in the Sultanate

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) celebrated today the launch of its new brand identity, which symbolizes the importance of capturing accurate social and economic data, while highlighting the strategic role played by NCSI in spreading statistical knowledge throughout all levels of society in the Sultanate. The brand unveiling ceremony was held at the NCSI office in Ghala under the patronage of His Excellency Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Chairman of the NCSI Board of Directors, in the presence of their Excellencies, members of the board, invited guests and members of the media.
Commenting on the occasion of the NCSI brand identity launch, His Excellency Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Chairman of the NCSI Board of Directors noted, "We are delighted to launch the official brand identity of the National Centre for Statistics and Information. This identity translates the goals and visions which the centre aims to achieve, highlighting the important mission of the centre as the official source of data and statistical information related to all aspects of life in the Sultanate, as well as being the entity that publishes social, economic and environmental information with complete transparency to those who need it"
He added "the NCSI vision of promoting knowledge in Oman is reflected clearly in the design lines of the new identity, which were in line with the highest technological and visual standards. Therefore, today marks a new beginning for the National Centre for Statistics and Information as the primary source for reliable statistical information which will further aid the social and economic development of the Sultanate in the years to come."
Commenting to guests and media representatives on the occasion of the launch of the NCSI identity, His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al-Barwani, CEO of the National Centre for Statistics noted, "The new NCSI identity symbolizes the vital role played by the centre for collecting data, and transforming that data into reliable and useful knowledge. The dissemination of reliable and accurate statistical knowledge is our primary goal, and our vision is to enhance knowledge throughout all levels of society in Oman. The vision for NCSI and all our employees strongly adheres to values of transparency, cooperation, knowledge sharing and credibility. Today, the launch of the NCSI identity marks the beginning of new stage for the centre, one that will witness many new programs and initiatives that will help in enhancing knowledge in Oman.
Commenting on the design of the new identity, His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al-Barwani added, "The identity is inspired by the map of Oman, and each part of the logo points to a specific goal of the centre and embodies the transformation of data into knowledge. Meanwhile, the colour palette used in the design also takes on specific meanings, with the white symbolizing transparency, blue representing technology and the economy, while green represents the environment and social development."
His Excellency added "We are preparing a number of new surveys and censuses, and there is a strong support from the Supreme Council for Planning to conduct the 2020 electronically, using advanced data capture methods, this is considered a turning point with regard to census projects." His Excellency also noted that extensive online availability of social, economic and environmental statistics made available by the NCSI via their website, mobile applications and social media portals, a virtual gateway of information which is helpful for researchers, governmental and private institutions.
Dynamic and precise, the newly unveiled brand identity for the National Centre for Statistics and Information embodies the efficient and professional framework under which the centre operates, while the graphical representation of the logo echoes not only the geographical outline of the Sultanate, but includes a stylized representation of the NCSI commitment to transparency and progressiveness through the use of the arrow-like graphical element which interacts with the outline of the Sultanate. These graphic elements combine to form the new NCSI brand identity, underlining the importance of mutual cooperation between the government, private sector and all members of the community. NCSI is an organization with multiple ambitions dedicated to the promotion of knowledge to encourage economic and social growth and for the informed improvement of living standards throughout the Sultanate.
In order to enhance statistical knowledge about the Sultanate, the National Centre for Statistics and Information manages the national statistical system, and is the official body for the publication and dissemination of all official statistics, including social, environmental and economic statistics issued by various governmental bodies. The NCSI uses the latest data capture and analysis techniques, and is aligned to international standards of best practice. In addition to publishing reliable statistics, the centre is actively promoting a culture towards the increasing reliance on independent and accurate social and economic data in order for policy makers, community leaders and decision makers to make informed decisions on the future economic and social development of the Sultanate. All statistical outcomes are based on an internationally mandated methodology for data collection, quantitative analysis and reporting.
The NSCI mission is based on a number of key themes, the most important of which is leadership. The centre is strongly focused on delivering professional outcomes throughout all levels of its operations, and is committed to spreading statistical knowledge throughout all levels of society in the Sultanate. While all statistical reports and analysis from the centre are made freely available through their regular reports and online resources, a key commitment is made towards maintaining privacy with respect to personal and commercially sensitive data. With this in mind, the centre has in place significant safeguards and policies to ensure all personal and commercially sensitive data is kept confidential at all times.
Since its inception based on the Royal decree 31/2012, the National Centre for Statistics and Information has rapidly implemented modern technology and industry leading data collection techniques, enabling the centre to deliver world-class levels of data capture and classification in order to better inform social and economic policy development, as well as stakeholders, decision makers and community members in all sectors of society in Oman. The role of the centre aims to position the Sultanate at the forefront for accurate statistical data capture, analysis and dissemination, building the basis for an increasingly knowledge based economy.
