Abu Dhabi/ Dubai -The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), the Number One Bank in the UAE, has been awarded the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry Centre for Responsible Business CSR Label in recognition of the Bank's responsible and sustainable business practices in areas of environment, marketplace, workplace and community.

"Being a major player in the economic development of the UAE we take great care of the social and environmental impact of our activities in the communities where we operate. Our sustainability strategy focuses on areas of economic performance, embracing best accountability practices, people, environment, product & service quality and innovations and outstanding relationships," says Belinda Scott, the Senior Manager of Sustainability at NBAD.

She adds: "NBAD is committed to collaborating with the Dubai Chamber Centre for Responsible Business and as members of the Sustainability Network we are committed to support the uptake and development of sustainability practices by the business community."

NBAD has integrated sustainability into the bank's internal audit process and within bank-wide objectives in line with 2013 bank strategy.  The Bank sets annual sustainability commitments which it reports progress against in its annual sustainability report, and these can be found at www.nbad.com.  

The Dubai Chamber CSR Label is a diagnostic framework as well as learning and development tool that help companies to define and improve their CSR strategy, policies and management practices based on high international standards.

"This is NBAD's first CSR Label certification and we are proud to be recognised for our efforts and commitment towards being a responsible and accountable organisation," says Ms. Scott. "The Bank will continue to utilise its resources to proactively understand and respond to meeting our stakeholders' needs."

NBAD has recently been listed 3rd on the Standard & Poors/Hawkamah Pan-Arab Environment Society Governance Index and aims to be the most Sustainable Arab Bank.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry headquarters. NBAD along with six organisations in the UAE received the Dubai Chamber CSR Label certificate for their efforts to become leading businesses in CSR and sustainability.

Khalid AL Zarouni, Business Development Manager at NBAD received the certificate on behalf of the bank from H.E. Hamad  Buamim, Director General of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
