Abu Dhabi, 30 November 2010: Ministry of Finance (MoF) organized "Change Management: Necessity or Luxury" workshop. HE Abdul Rahim Al Zarooni presented the workshop in the presence of HE Younis Haji Al Khoori, Under Secretary of MoF and a number of undersecretaries, department directors and their deputies. Organizing the workshop is in line with the ministry's commitment to develop the abilities and skills of its employees.

The workshop aimed at developing the skills directors regarding the change concept, in addition to defining their role in moving this concept from theory to action. This will reduce wasted efforts, increase productivity and keep pace with scientific and technical developments. It will also enhance creativity and innovation to improve the overall performance and competitiveness of the ministry.

The workshop defined the concept of change management as the effective and competent use of human and financial resources to shift from a certain situation to a better one in the shortest time and minimum effort. The workshop reviewed the various elements and standards of change, in addition to steps needed to make this change and reach its desired purpose.

"Change requires a full awareness of its importance to improve the overall performance of the ministry and the performance of employees. The workshop provided real models of efforts exerted in this regard during recent years. This will form a clear vision for MoF directors to manage change and apply its standards and principles", HE Younis Haji Al Khoori, Under Secretary of MoF, said.

The training course provided a detailed presentation about the elements of the successful change and the characteristics of its leader, in addition to examining ways to manage it. The workshop also highlighted the vital steps to secure change such as planning initiatives, identifying and managing risks. Steps also include monitoring and evaluation through analyzing leadership styles, defining the model of change steps and assessing institutional performance and in accordance with the indicators and targets set for it.

"By organizing workshops and training courses, we seek to improve the collective and individual skills in the areas of change. We guide these groups to improve their performance and ways of managing employees. This is in line MoF efforts to play a leading role in achieving the sustainable and balanced development", HE Al Khoori added.

Participants were segregated into work teams to conduct practical exercises and assessment on change management. This will help them to determine the strengths and weaknesses in institutions, in addition to identifying the overall situation and develop detailed plans for development.
