New Tariff Structure benefits 80% of MobiNil subscribers

Tuesday, March 25, 2003

In an effort to move towards a more balanced tariff structure within the Egyptian market, MobiNil has acquired approval from the Telecom Regulatory Authority to revise prices for both the prepaid and the postpaid users.

The new structure reduces minute rates for prepaid customers who represent the vast majority of mobile users in the Egyptian market as a whole. It also offers reduced administrative fees on all scratch cards used by prepaid customers. On the other hand, the new structure introduces a slight increase in the minute rate for postpaid customers while offering a reduced monthly subscription fee.

"Getting Regulator approval on this new tariff structure benefits over 80% of our subscriber base. We have proposed this new structure to continue to offer the best value to our subscribers, according to their use while maintaining the highest level of service", said Osman Sultan, President & CEO. "The end result is a tariff structure that is fair and of great value relative to any other market in the world with a tariff lower than any other market in the region and much lower compared to international standards.", added Osman Sultan.

The new prepaid price structure will offer a substantial reduction of the minute rate from L. E. 1.75 to L.E. 1.50 for all calls. It also offers administrative fees that are reduced by 25% on all scratch cards used by prepaid customers.

The postpaid revised structure, on the other hand, will feature a changed minute rate of L.E. 0.30 for all postpaid customers. This will be coupled with a reduction of monthly subscription fees by 10% for personal postpaid users.

MobiNil will also re-adjust its peak and off peak hours making peak times between 12 p.m. and 12 a.m. and off peak between 12 a.m. and 12 p.m. as opposed to having peak times between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and off peak times between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. This would, in turn, standardize peak and off peak hours for all mobile users in the Egyptian market.

These changes in structure and in peak and off peak hours will be effective as of end of April 2003.

"Our efforts to reduce airtime and administrative fees for prepaid users aim to address the needs of the most price-sensitive segments in light of price changes within the market," explains Osman Sultan.
