Industry Leader Partners with Maxim Networx to Deliver Results
Ottawa, Canada and New York City - Mitel, the trusted innovator in enterprise communication solutions and applications that empower business success, made an important house call when a large medical health organization with 22 locations in and around New York City needed it the most. The contract is valued at $2.4 million.
Queens Long Island Medical Group (QLIMG) said it had selected another vendor's system six months before asking Mitel to step in and use its expertise to give the thriving company reliable, resilient IP communications to better serve its patients, improve employee morale, and contribute to a much healthier bottom line.
"The other company brought a product to market before they should have and it was a headache throughout," said QLIMG chief information officer Stefanie Bruemmer. "Mitel had shown well in the original RFP, so we asked them to help solve our problem. In hindsight we chose to go with another well-known name brand company over Mitel's proven reliability and price-features advantage."
Mitel installed its embedded standard unified messaging, auto-attendant, Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) and in-building wireless from SpectraLink along with Mitel's flagship 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) in QLIMG's medical centers as well as supplying the company with 1,500 IP phones, all of which contributed to help solve a very particular problem.
With so many offices scattered throughout New York City and Long Island, many patients didn't know which number to call. Different area codes - including two in a single building that straddled a boundary - plus the phone numbers and extensions were next to impossible to remember. It was taking an overworked attendant too long to process the calls and patients were letting their feelings be known. That was until Mitel answered the call.
"Since Mitel installed our IP equipment, our patient surveys are coming back much more positively," Bruemmer explained. "One big complaint was our previous phone system, but that's a thing of the past now. Imagine the confusion with half of a building in one area code and the other half in another. Now with four-digit dialing between medical centers, area codes are no trouble." John W. Philips, chief administrative officer for QLIMG added, "Mitel helped us return to effectively implementing our patient services motto of "It's All About Our Patients!"
"This is another example of Mitel's ability to step in to offer solutions to problems when a small, medium or large enterprise needs to revamp its communications quickly, professionally and with long-term growth in mind," said Mitel's chief executive officer Don Smith. "We are proud that Mitel could serve Queens Long Island Medical Group and take care of their pressing needs when they needed us most. Through our channel partner Maxim we were able to ascertain their needs and get their systems running smoothly again quickly and permanently."
Channel partner John Hawat of Maxim Networx facilitated the quick transition after receiving a distress call from QLIMG. "They have very specific needs that I was sure couldn't be fulfilled by their former provider," he said. "So we were still ready and able to come in and help this very busy company serve its patients with innovative Mitel products and solutions."
At the end of the day, it was all about taking care of patients and making it easier for them as well as enabling doctors and support staff to communicate quickly and clearly. And now with the Mitel 3300 ICP in place, future growth will result in seamless migration as new solutions and equipment are added. "This system is the one that does everything we hoped it would do," said Bruemmer. "Everyone is happier from staff to patients."
And even the future looks brighter because QLIMG is now set up for such advanced Mitel features as Gigabit Ethernet Stand (GigE Stand). The GigE Stand converts any standard Mitel IP phone into a GigE compatible IP phone. This allows computers connected via the phones to access GigE services over the network like MRI, x-ray transfer between buildings or even cities enabling faster diagnosis and consultation among doctors.
