Dubai, UAE December 7, 2010: The 2010 edition of the Middle East SharePoint Conference concluded yesterday in Doha, Qatar with the presence of more than 400 attendees from across 20 countries at the biggest event across the region for technology professionals to learn more about Microsoft SharePoint 2010. Microsoft SharePoint is built as a business collaboration platform to allow people to interact with each other, with content, and with both internal and external data to increase their productivity. As a result, SharePoint helps companies deal with the ever-growing and ever-changing business landscape.
According to Mohammed Hammoudi, Country Manager, Microsoft Qatar. " It gives us great pleasure to have brought this event to Qatar considering the country and the region's focus on adopting world class solutions in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The conference comes at an opportune time as public and private sector institutions across the region are choosing SharePoint as their platform of choice to run their internal business and processes. It is truly an enabler for them to connect with their partners and customers and it provides a platform for their different business needs."
Addressing attendees at the event, Eric Swift, General Manager, Product Management, SharePoint talked about the significance of SharePoint for Microsoft considering it is a US $ 1.3 billion dollar business for Microsoft. Speaking on the occasion, he said, "From a business collaboration standpoint, SharePoint 2010 delivers the best productivity experience by letting people work together in ways that are most effective for them. It also helps customers rapidly respond to business needs with dynamic and easily deployed solutions."
The experience with SharePoint and the significant benefits was also a subject of discussion with customers like Qatar Foundation and Abu Dhabi Judicial Department who were represented at the conference. A CIO roundtable was also conducted with leading educational institutions from Qatar on how SharePoint helps improve education particularly in the fields of database and information management and control, research and social media.
"Speaking on the occasion, Khalid Sarwar Warraich, CIO, Texas A&M University at Qatar said, "We believe SharePoint represents a great solution to help academic organisations use the powerful tools available to support the collaborative, mobile, and virtualized work styles that can help our staff and students work together and stay productive anywhere. The Middle East SharePoint Conference 2010 showcased many examples of real world deployments and scenarios in sessions delivered by the most experienced SharePoint experts in the industry. Both private sector organisations and government institutions from across the region used the conference as a great learning opportunity to enable their organizations to be more efficient, have quicker access to data and learn from best practices around the world on how other enterprises have implemented world class productivity platforms and consolidated costs.
The SharePoint conference was also a meeting ground for a wide ecosystem of partners who are deploying, customizing and building solutions on top of SharePoint. The number of partners is also increasing across the region as more partners recognize the value of SharePoint and its ease of deployment and developing solutions on SharePoint.
