Abu Dhabi: Following the approval by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, of an economic package for Abu Dhabi, the Media Zone Authority – Abu Dhabi today announced a series of initiatives aimed at supporting the Emirate’s drive to accelerate economic growth over the next three years.

This includes an extension to its entrepreneurship scheme to enable more small businesses to work from home as well as encouraging and promoting licensing options to free zone partners.

Her Excellency Maryam Eid AlMheiri, CEO Media Zone Authority – Abu Dhabi and twofour54, said: “The new, forward-thinking initiatives announced by His Highness will create more opportunities for all companies in Abu Dhabi. By making it easier for private sector companies to do business, it will create more opportunities for growth.”

The initiatives announced by Sheikh Mohamed include allowing entrepreneurs to start their businesses from home, 10,000 new jobs for Emiratis in the private sector, and a dual license for free zone firms.

Her Excellency AlMheiri said: “I’m proud to announce that from today we have extended our entrepreneurship scheme to enable more of our small businesses to work from home in the first two years as they get their businesses off the ground in line with the vision of His Highness.

“Furthermore, we are also aligned with the new announcements for licensing as we have recently offered a dual license to partners in the media zone to enable them to work with onshore companies and government entities.”

Abu Dhabi’s robust and dynamic media ecosystem has attracted media companies of all sizes and from all over the world, including some of biggest names in the business, such as Ubisoft, Sky News Arabia, CNN, and Ericsson, as well as stimulated the growth of regional content creators, such as Lamsa and Algorythma. The new initiatives will complement existing support already provided by the Media Zone Authority - Abu Dhabi, such as easy licensing and set-up services, flexible office
solutions, networking programmes, and an online portal to connect firms with live tendering opportunities.

Her Excellency continued: “At the media zone, 37% of our partner base are owned and operated by Emiratis who feel the need to be part of a creative community. We have a 13,000-strong Arabic youth community and the plans announced to create 10,000 new Emirati jobs present exciting opportunities for our community and private sector media companies.

“The media zone’s success is built on collaboration. We nurture media in all its forms and we will continue to focus on our community - creating products and services that are designed to support our partners and individuals.”
