Annual award helps establish national archive for aspects of UAE Life
Dubai - Under the patronage and presence of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Mansoor Bin Mohammad Photography Awardconcluded itsfifth session,which this year was held under the title 'UAE Panorama.'
In addition to its main title category, theMansoor Bin Mohammad Photography Award hadtwo sub-categories this year; 'Monochrome - single colour' and 'UAE Horizons.' Thefifth edition of the popular artistic contest was a natural progression to its 'From Their Perspective' category, which was the title last year.
UAE Panorama was open for young Emiratis aged 8-16 years, with its aim being to encourage creativity among younger generations and to highlight their visions for the future. This year's edition of the award witnessed unprecedented involvement, registering an increase of 40-50 per cent in the number of participants in its categories. The award has developed a reputation for its exacting standards, with one category; 'UAE Faces' being withheld this year as the submitted works failed to meet the required level of quality.
"We would like to express our happiness for the ongoing success of this award,"said Bader Al Awadi, General Coordinator, Mansoor Bin Mohammad Photography Award. "The works submitted by the participantsduring the past five years have contributed in establishinga huge national archive covering various aspects of life in the UAE, including culture, heritage and civilisation. The collective success of these efforts will help us achieve the award's objectivethat aims to embrace the innovations of young photographers", he added.
Many of the competing works in UAE Panorama had a high standard of composition and detail, expressing the nation's unique features from the personal perspective of each photographer. Participants also succeeded in highlighting the remarkable development of the UAE in a variety of areas.
The first Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoumaward was launched in 2010, as an initiative of His Highness. The 2014 edition was sponsored by a number of strategic partners, including Dubai Media Incorporated (media partner), Emirates Airline, Dubai Maritime City Authority and Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
