Over 200 service providers from 13 industry clusters converge at MSE 2009

Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE minister of Foreign Trade and the Honourable Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Minister of International Trade and Industry in Malaysia, today inaugurated the Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE 2009) which is held at the Dubai Airport Expo till March 19.

The opening ceremony was attended by diplomats, senior trade officials and prominent businessmen from GCC and neighbouring region as well as Malaysians including His Excellency Dato' Yahaya Abdul Jabar, Malaysian Ambassador to the UAE.

The three-day exhibition, organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) with the support of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Dubai Export Development Corporation, showcases a range of world-class professional services from Malaysia, especially services critical to the sectors seen to be drivers of economic and social change in the Middle East, North Africa and CIS.

According to the organiser, MSE 2009 - the biggest showcase of Malaysian services overseas - will serve as a broad platform for sourcing and networking for service providers from Malaysia and their potential partners in the targeted markets. The exhibition has already attracted visitors from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Bahrain, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and South Africa.

MSE 2009 will also see MATRADE and the Export Development Corporation of Dubai (EDC) signing the memorandum of understanding for the exchange of information and undertaking trade promotion activities, thus reflects the growing level of bilateral trade relations between the UAE and Malaysia.

"Rapid development in Malaysia and prudent investment by the government in infrastructure development and human capital had produced many leading players in the country capable of providing world-class professional services in diverse sectors. Malaysia's service expertise in sectors such as engineering, construction, eco-friendly design and architecture, Islamic finance, and accounting as well as arbitration, to name a few, is currently exported to more than 56 countries," Hon.Yassin said after opening MSE 2009.

MSE 2009 follows the success of the first such exhibition held in Sharjah in 2008, with 168 companies representing 11 industry clusters. This year's event is attended by over 200 service providers from 13 clusters - construction, engineering, financial services, healthcare and hospital-related services, ICT, oil & gas, education and specialised training, energy and power generation, logistics and transportation, professional services, franchising, design and art.

"The Middle East is already the number one export market for our construction services, accounting for 42% of the exports. Given the amazing level of growth seen in and around the Middle East in recent years, we expect a great demand for Malaysian services in these countries in other sectors as well," the Malaysian Minister added.

Further demonstrating the dynamism of Malaysia-GCC commercial relations, the Tuwaiq Group of Saudi Arabia will sign a joint venture agreement at MSE 2009 with Skali Alam Teknokrat Sdn Bhd, a leading e-Business solutions provider from Malaysia.

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia will also launch the Oil & Gas Services Directory, a compilation of 155 companies with their capabilities from the country. The directory, published in collaboration with industry associations and professional bodies, will be a useful reference for oil and gas companies to source quality Malaysian expertise.

In addition to the services forum scheduled on 18 March, the organiser has lined up a series of seminars and industry workshops on ICT, finance, education, healthcare, oil and gas, logistics and franchise apart from the services showcase. MSE 2009 will also feature a design showcase of creations by top Malaysian designers as well as unique art pieces from renowned art galleries. Besides, networking receptions will take place daily at the exhibition from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

MSE 2009 will be held at the West Hall of Dubai Airport Expo with entry for visitors open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first day and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the following two days.
