Makro invites Qalioubya residents to apply for jobs at their second store in Egypt
In support of Qalioubya's local community, today Makro hosted the first of a two-day employment fair, offering job opportunities exclusively to the residents of Qalioubya. The employment fair, which will seek to fill 250 jobs at Makro's second store in Egypt, was hosted in collaboration with the Governor of Qalioubya Adly Hussein.
Elaborating on the importance of the Qalioubaya employment fair, the Managing Director of Makro Egypt, Francois Oliver, said "In light of the great success we experienced as a result of our Salam City employment fair, it was only logical that we host a similar event in Qalioubaya. At Makro, one of our core values is investing in the local community and our wholesale business-to-business stores, first and foremost, belong to the community. We are here to serve the Egyptian people, whether by offering them access to our high-quality products, stable jobs, or simply supporting them in making the best of the businesses they operate."
Mourees Youssef, Manager of the Qalioubaya Makro store said "We are delighted to be in a position where we can offer employment opportunities to Qalioubaya's residents. Utilizing the local expertise of the Qalioubaya community, will allow us to offer the level of professionalism that all our Makro stores are founded on, and that is the core reason that customers choose to come through our doors."
Commenting on the success of the employment fair, Govenor of Qalioubaya Adly Hussein said "We are always happy to see companies investing in the local community. Qalioubaya has a rich and diverse mix of residents all of whom can bring both local and professional experience to Makro's store. The employment fair was an important joint effort that helps emphasize the important added value that local residents can bring to the community in which they live."
Projected to open in the last quarter of 2010, Makro's Qalioubaya store will be the second of 12 stores expected to open in Egypt in the medium to long term. Since entering the market, Makro has revolutionized the wholesale market becoming the first company in Egypt to cater exclusively to professionals. With a product mix of over 20,000 food and non-food items, 90% of which are sourced from Egypt's local market, Makro has already made substantial headway in promoting the wholesale concept.
