Amman, February 14, 2009-- Mahmoudia Motors, the exclusive dealer of Volvo Cars in Jordan announced the launch of the Volvo XC60 for the first time in Jordan. The XC60 is designed in accordance with Volvo's pioneering and cutting edge preventive safety systems. The launch of the Volvo crossover, described as "dressed in a thrilling blend of muscular XC capability and the sporty charisma of a coupe", took place along with the opening of Mahmoudia Motors, Volvo showroom, located in Wadi Saqra.  

Mr. Samir K. Rifai, General Manager of Mahmoudia Motors stated, "Mahmoudia Motors is proud to be the exclusive dealer of Volvo Cars in Jordan and we are delighted to introduce the new Volvo XC60, known to be the safest Volvo ever, for the first time in the Kingdom. The XC60 crossover had its premiere showing at the international car show in Geneva in March 2008, with the first cars reaching dealers in Europe in autumn 2008. Now the Middle East, the Gulf and Jordan have been introduced to this vehicle. The new XC60 bases its unique appeal on the synthesis between daringly sporty design and a range of intelligent safety systems that help the driver avoid accidents."

The big safety news of the Vovlo XC60 is "City Safety" - a unique feature that can help the driver avoid or reduce the effects of the type of low-speed impacts that are common in city traffic and traffic tailbacks. If the car is about to drive into the vehicle in front and the driver does not react, the car brakes itself.

Tomas Ernberg, Regional Director for Volvo Cars Middle East said, "We are the first manufacturer in the world to offer this type of feature as standard. City Safety in addition to several other safety features in this car clearly advertise that the new XC60 is the safest car Volvo has ever produced. The car is packed with our accumulated safety know-how and technology, when it comes to preventing accidents and protecting all the occupants in a collision."  

The new XC60 will initially be available with the six-cylinder turbocharged T6 engine producing 285 horsepower. Turbocharged D5 engine producing 185 horsepower and turbocharged D2.4 producing 163 horsepower are also avaialbe. All Wheel Drive (AWD) with Instant Traction is fitted as standard on all variants.

Owing to its compact dimensions - the XC60 is 20 cm shorter than the XC70 and lower than the XC90 - it continues the range of slimmed-down car models with high energy efficiency. The chassis setting is aggressively sporty without losing anything in terms of comfort.

Wisam Alawi, Volvo Brand Manager at Mahmoudia Motors said, "The launch of the XC60 represents an introduction of the latest car technologies to the Jordanian Auto market and solidifies the fact that Volvo  will remain a pioneer in car safety, specially that it has come out with its own version of collision detection technology known as City Safety. Front & rear-end collisions are considered to be major traffic accidents in Jordan and the world, therefore coming up with a solution to this problem will decrease the financial and emotional burden caused by collisions not only for Volvo drivers but rather all drivers involved." He went on to say, "This goes hand in hand with Mahmoudia Motors long term objective of promoting safer roads and safe driving in Jordan to ultimately decrease the percentage of traffic accidents."

Mahmoudia Motors new Volvo showroom is located on Arar Street in Wadi Saqra and is open six days a week from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. A specialized team of Volvo trained and qualified mechanics and technicians will cater to all Volvo customer service and maintenance needs at the Mahmoudia Motors Service Centre located in Wadi Al Seir.
