Former Dubai Media City outfit Madar Research reopens in Dubai Internet City with a new development department focused on Search Science and Arabic Linguistics

Madar Research & Development celebrated its re-launch today with the free distribution of a 130-page a new study covering Arab ICT Use and Social Networks Adoption. The firm had previously operated in Media City as Madar Research from 2002 till 2010, and now it has expanded its operations to cover a new development department focused on Arabic linguistics and search science.

The report presents detailed market data and in-depth analysis of the growth and penetration of mobile and fixed line subscriptions, Internet users and computer installed base in the Arab world - totaling 18 countries covered by Madar Research & Development, excluding Somalia, Mauritania, Djibouti and Comoros. The report also includes a section dedicated to the adoption of social networks in the Arab world and another focused on Arabic digital content.

"Madar Research & Development aims to carry out its operations in two areas of information and communication technology: first to conduct market research to chart the Arab information society and help in drawing a roadmap toward a knowledge based economy; second, to work closely with academic sectors in Arab countries to create an Arabic Language Search Science (ALSS) which is much needed in the digital age. The two fields of study complement each other and will contribute towards building an R&D culture in the region," said Abdul Kader Kamli, CEO and research director of the Dubai Internet City-based Madar Research & Development.

The study, which is sponsored by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), provides detailed information and analysis regarding Arab social networks adoption and Arabic digital content that are rarely examined, such as Wikipedia and blogs usage in the Arab world, the most watched YouTube videos and the citizen journalist phenomenon in the Arab world, in addition to a wide range of related data and analyses.
