Daily flights from Muscat to Frankfurt introduced as of March 29th; attractive fares starting at OMR 129; more flexibility and travel choices for passengers

Lufthansa German Airlines will increase its frequencies on the Muscat-Frankfurt route beginning of the summer schedule 2009. Effective March 29th, Lufthansa passengers can avail of daily flights from Muscat to Frankfurt with connecting flights onwards to 107 destinations in Europe and 23 cities in the US, a route network matched by none other airline in the market. The aircraft operated is the Airbus A340-300 and A330-300 with a three class onboard product and 211 seats total, 8 in First Class, 48 in Business and 165 seats in Economy Class.

"We are proud to announce this expanded schedule for our Muscat-Frankfurt flights," Peter Pollak, General Manager Passenger Sales UAE & Director Gulf, Lufthansa German Airlines said in his opening address at a press conference in Muscat today. "Being recognized as one of the leading international carriers for the corporate travellers, we see a lot of market potential for us with a growing number of multinational companies present in the country", Peter Pollak further stated. Despite the global financial situation, the demand for air traffic to and from the Gulf region is strong. "We appreciate the effort and the support undertaken by the government of Oman to further develop the aviation and travel industry. This reflects on strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries Germany and Oman," Peter Pollak said.

The Lufthansa flights from Muscat to Frankfurt are particularly well received in the market. "Having witnessed the success of the previous months, we are now ready to take the next step to further enhance our Oman schedule for the benefit of our customers", Yazdi Mehta, Country Manager Oman, Lufthansa German Airlines said. "Bearing in mind, that summer is the peak season for travel out of the Gulf and also for the Oman market, we can make sure that we offer the right product to the customer at the right time with a daily service to our hub in Frankfurt", Yazdi Mehta commented on the strong demand for both the leisure and corporate travel. "This gives us the additional opportunity to secure a larger market share", Yazdi Mehta said.

From March 29th, the flight from Muscat departs daily in the evening at approximately 23:30hrs and arrives Frankfurt at 06:15 hrs; the flight number LH 619 on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday operates via Bahrain and flight number LH 617 on other days of the week is via Abu Dhabi. Together with SWISS airlines both carriers offer a double daily flight operation to Frankfurt and Zurich. Currently the Lufthansa flights operate three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) on this route.

To promote the new improved summer schedule for Oman, Lufthansa customers can avail of attractive offers from Muscat to many European and North Atlantic destinations starting at OMR 129* and OMR 199* for flights to the US. Thirty European destinations in Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, the UK and many more are on offer. The "Muscat daily flight special" is bookable through travel agents and the Lufthansa office in Muscat. The First Class special fare starts at OMR 1,623 and is available for flights from Muscat to 14 European destinations to for example Amsterdam, Paris, London and Milan.

Lufthansa has a strong position in the Gulf region and connects all major gateways with a continuously expanded route network and an ever-growing market presence in the region. Currently, Lufthansa operates from 16 destinations in 12 countries in the Gulf and Middle East to the Lufthansa hubs Frankfurt and Munich.

Due to the current economic situation, Lufthansa will adjust its overall capacities with the beginning of the summer schedule according to the global decline in demand. Altogether the capacities will be reduced by 0.6 per cent and will occur by cancelling certain frequencies and combining routes and flights within the global route network. At the same time, Lufthansa will expand its flight schedule in selected growth markets, Oman being on of them. Subject to tax and service charge
