Another first for Energy Systems

Energy Systems has been working with Lister Petter for just over two years. In that short time it has built itself a reputation for being a complete solutions provider, rather than a supplier of generating sets.

Most of the Lister Petter Gensets Energy Systems have so far purchased have been installed on behalf of major mobile telecom operators in Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Vanuatu.

It was their recent work for Digicel that led them to look for ways to provide a more effective solution. The major expense for the operator is not the initial purchase cost of the generator but the cost of operation and maintenance. Accessibility for maintenance is not always feasible by ocean or land in Oceania, and a large number of the sites require the use of a helicopter. Having to carry out service visits by helicopter is expensive.

Steve says, "bearing in mind the operational costs involved, we worked with Lister Petter on a long running oil system which would reduce the frequency of visits required." A standard engine needs the oil topping up at 100 hours and changing every 500 hours, the new "Lister Petter Long Run System" extends this to provide 2000 hours unattended running. At continuous running this is around three months and at 8 hours a day providing back up power the sets will run for over eight months.

The savings are amazing said Steve - a telecom operator can expect to see his annual cost of maintenance reduce by over 70%.

Energy Systems looks poised to be a long term partner with Lister Petter helping provide solutions to the ever changing world of energy requirements.
