New Products include a Wireless-G USB Network Adapter and Wi-Fi Finder, a Wireless-G Compact Internet Camera and the Wireless-G Media Storage Link Router with SpeedBooster
CeBIT, Hannover, Germany - 9 March 2006 - Linksys, a Division of Cisco Systems, Inc., the recognised leading provider of voice, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer, SOHO (Small Office/Home Office)and small business customer, will today demonstrate at CeBIT (Booth C33, Hall 20), three new products: a Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Wi-Fi Finder (WUSBF54G), a Wireless-G Compact Internet Video Camera (WVC54GC) and the Wireless-G Media Storage Link Router with SpeedBooster (WRTSL54GS).
The new Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Wi-Fi Finder (WUSBF54G) is a handy, pocket-sized device which combines an easy-to-use wireless network scanner with a USB-connected Wireless-G network adapter. It has been designed for mobile workers who wish to locate potential hotspots and Wi-Fi connections before beginning the time-consuming tasks of unpacking and powering up a notebook computer. The WUSBF54G has been designed to help users both select and connect to the best of these networks for their needs. A push of a button on the WUSBF54G initialises a search for 802.11 wireless networks reachable via its 802.11G network adapter. The user can set the search to include only open networks, all networks, or to search for signal strength in various areas for a specific network name (SSID).
Upon determining the networks in the area, the LCD screen on the WUSBF54G displays each network's SSID, signal strength, 802.11 mode, and channel along with both the type and status of security. Its advanced search technology is designed to filter out 2.4GHz interference given off by microwave ovens, cordless phones, and Bluetooth devices, providing only information on 802.11 wireless networks. It then presents the networks in order of signal strength, until a specific network is selected.
Robert Auci, director of sales for Linksys in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, says, "Once a desired network is determined by scrolling through the presented information, the WUSBF54G can be used to establish an 802.11G network connection via the USB port on a notebook that has installed the included client utility software. In addition to providing 802.11G connectivity, the WUSBF54G charges its lithium-ion battery through the USB connection to the PC, eliminating the need for a separate, hard-to-carry power source. To add value for the user, the WUSBF54G can also be used to connect a desktop PC to a home or office network."
The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera (WVC54GC) wirelessly connects to a home or small office network and distributes a live video stream through the Internet to a web browser accessible on virtually any Windows-based PC, enabling users to easily monitor their most important assets. Its unique compact form factor and wireless connectivity provide the flexibility to mount the WVC54GC on even the most remote wall. Alternatively, it can be slipped into its included desktop stand for more local monitoring. An easy-to-remember name can be assigned to the WVC54GC through the SoloLink domain service from Linksys, which eases the process of accessing recorded content. When its security mode is activated, the WVC54GC will send email alerts with video clips to up to three email addresses upon detecting motion within its field of view.
To address the growing desire for networked storage capabilities, Linksys is introducing the Wireless-G Media Storage Link Router with SpeedBooster (WRTSL54GS). An all-in-one Internet-sharing router, Wireless-G access point, and Network Storage Link, the WRTSL54SLGS enables users to connect USB disk drives directly to their network. SecureEasySetup functionality on the Wireless-G Media Storage Link Router makes creating a secure home network with networked attached storage push-button simple, and a built-in media server streams music, video, and photos located on a USB-attached storage device to any Universal UPnP (Plug and Play) compatible media adapter. Storage devices attached to the WRTSL54GS can also be set up to be available publicly for download via a web browser or via password-protected accounts for authorised users.
