Beirut, 18 October 2013 (United Nations Information Centre)-- Under the Patronage of the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) and on the occasion of the United Nations Day, the Higher Institute of Political and Administrative Sciences, in collaboration with the Student Affairs Office at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), will celebrate the launch of a new course entitled "Student Engagement and Capacity Building on the Work of the UN" on Thursday 24 October, at 11 am,  in Kaslik main campus, Jean El Hawa Auditorium.

The event will feature a welcome statement by the Director of the Career Services Office and Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, Khalil Abboud, followed by the official launch of the new course by Pro-Rector and Director of the Higher Institute of Political and Administrative Sciences, George Yahchouchi, a statement by USEK students and the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon. Also speaking at the ceremony is World Food Program (WFP) Public Information Officer Laure Chadraoui and UNIC Beirut Director Bahaa Elkoussy who will give presentations on "UN Food Assistance to Syrian Refugees in Lebanon" and "How the UN Engages Youth" respectively.

This course is designed to help students identify the causes of basic problems facing humanity, and build a better understanding of UN efforts and programs in this regard.

The UN Information Centre in Beirut urges media institutions to grant this event the highlight it deserves in view of the topic's importance at the educational and academic levels.
