Kingston SSDNow performance saves Reed IT staff 30 minutes per day in faster boot up times and application access

Increased performance enables 'on call' IT workers to respond up to 50 per cent quicker

Kingston SSDNow ROI Calculator helps Reed evaluate SSD as a viable performance upgrade

Dubai, UAE, 8 December,, 2010 - Kingston Digital Europe Ltd, an affiliate of Kingston Technology Company Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced that its state-of-the-art solid state drives (SSDs) have increased productivity, boosted user satisfaction and delivered environmental benefits to global recruitment specialist, Reed Specialist Recruitment. In order to combat the continual decline in laptop performance, the hard-disk drives (HDD) on Reed's IT team were replaced with Kingston SSDNow V and V+ Series drives ranging from 64GB to 256GB to extend the life cycle of the client systems.

Reed, a global specialist provider of permanent, contract, temporary and outsourced recruitment solutions, has more than 3,000 permanent employees working out of 350 offices worldwide, including the United Arab Emirates, across 30 specialisms.  Reed relies on its UK-based and mobile IT support to keep the company and its customers connected across multiple time zones. In June 2010, Reed upgraded its IT team's Toshiba M9 and M11 laptops by using Kingston's SSDNow bundle kits, which took just 45 minutes per upgrade.

Business benefits were apparent from the outset. Reed ran comparison tests with HDD-equipped machines including booting up using Windows 7 and opening memory-heavy applications such as Lotus Notes, Oracle and sophisticated encryption software.  For each of these tests SSDs completely outclassed HDDs in terms of performance.

Sean Whetstone, Reed's Global Head of IT Services said: "Transferring from HDD to Kingston SSDNow is like moving from dial-up to broadband. The results of our internal tests showed that the IT team saved 30 minutes a day due to increased laptop performance.  It also enabled 'on call' staff to remotely log on up to 50 per cent faster, resulting in quicker response rates to customer queries."

Reed operates a robust environmental strategy with aims that encompass carbon neutrality, waste reduction and sustainability. Kingston SSDNow drives are also helping Reed's IT department meet these goals in two important respects; reduced power consumption, which contributes to a smaller carbon footprint; and the opportunity to make PCs work better for longer, which cuts demand for new materials and the production of waste.

Whetstone concludes: "Before implementation, we were able to quantify potential ROI using the Kingston SSDNow ROI Calculator, which provided an indication of the prospective impact, upgrading to SSDs would have on the business."

Ann Keefe, Regional Director for UK and Ireland at Kingston said: "Kingston SSDNow provides a strong performance upgrade for PCs. With the ability to boot up and run multiple applications simultaneously, it has saved Reed employees 30 minutes a day which is why SSDNow guarantees increased productivity and greater user satisfaction."
