The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) was the focus of a major fund-raising event in Dubai on November 21st 2006, under the patronage and in the presence of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, Wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, Ruler of Dubai. Also attending were HRH Prince Talal Bin Muhammad and HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of KHCF, HRH Prince Mired Bin Raad and HRH Princess Dina Mired, Director General of KHCF, as well as Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC). The event raised a total of AED 12,000,000 to support the life-saving work of the King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan.
More than 500 guests attended the gala dinner to show their support and raise funds for the King Hussein Cancer Foundation. The event was sponsored by Abraaj Capital, Arab Bank, Arabtec Construction, CICON Building Materials, Dubai International Capital, Jordan Dubai Capital, Emirates Securities, Al Hamad Contracting Company, National Paints Factories, ORION Holding Overseas, Drake & Scull, Emaar Properties, Jordinvest and Mr. Abdelraouf Al Bitar. It was further supported by Dubai Drums, Jordan Business Council, Harem at Anticana, Grand Hyatt Amman Hotel, Kempinski Hotel, La Vie En Rose, Movenpick Resort Petra, Royal Jordanian, Saks Fifth Avenue and Van Cleef & Arpels.
The Gala Dinner in Dubai, the Foundation's first event in the UAE, was presented by Tania Bryer, the renowned British television presenter and included a performance of lively oriental music by celebrated Jordanian violinist Jihad Akl and an enchanting performance by the Dubai Drums entertainment band. Six unique items were auctioned, including an exquisite Ottoman illumination donated by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum and HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein. The event also hosted an exhibition by the renowned Jordanian designer, Samia Mango, showcasing a number of her exquisitely designed traditional Arabic kaftans.
"The importance of this Gala fundraiser and the support we received cannot be over-estimated. It is a strong demonstration of regional support for a vital, regional center that helps save hundreds of patients' lives all over the Middle East", stated HRH Princess Ghida Talal.
The Foundation is the legal umbrella organization responsible for the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC); the Foundation's medical arm. The Center works to provide state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer care to the people of Jordan and the region. The primary focus of the Foundation is to support and maintain the life-saving work of the Center, and to promote awareness and education programs aimed at early detection and prevention of cancer. The Foundation also dedicates its efforts to support patients financially and psychologically throughout their lengthy and difficult cancer treatment.
