Exceptional music and sound effects accompany show at Modhesh Fun City stage

Dubai, June 28, 2004: As part of range of innovative and exciting activities organised during the Dubai Summer Surprises 2004, the Modhesh Fun City stage hosts the Popeye, the Sailor Man Show, one of the most popular and lovable cartoon characters among the kids. The shows, which attract a lot of children, are being organised by Spacetoon, the Arabic TV channel for the little ones.

In the show, Popeye, the cartoon character, will showcase his exciting sea adventure and his manoeuvres in fighting the enemy. The kids will be able to imbibe the message from the dramatic and entertaining show, wherein the brave sailor man Popeye represents the good and fights the evil. Pitted against him is another character -- Bluto - the giant man who depicts the evil and who resorts to all kinds of tricks to checkmate Popeye and win over the control of the ship.

The show, who sets everything right and encourages fair play and the victory of good over evil, made Popeye a raging success. Since then, there has been no looking back for this spinach-aided superhero. Bluto, who represents the evil, has a long-standing wish to captain the ship in place of Popeye and resorts to evil ways of resting the control of the same.

As part of his evil designs, Bluto also stages a flawed election procedure, wherein all the sailors vote for him, wresting the reins of the ship from Popeye. The poor Popeye finds himself imprisoned in one of the cabins in the ship as Bluto guides the ship through turbulence and dangers, putting the lives of everyone in a lot of problems.

Under his stewardship, the ship is in troubled waters. Coupled with this, it is attacked by a monster and it starts losing its balance. Seeing the imminent danger, all the occupants run for their lives. The new captain, Bluto, instead of holding fort, also makes a hasty retreat, showcasing his coward nature and weak leadership abilities.

Meanwhile, Popeye tries and works out a strategy to bail the ship out of the crisis by fighting the monster and saving the boat from sinking. Olive Oyl, Popeye's wife, extends a helping hand in the endeavour by supplying spinach to him. The spinach-aided superhero comes out stronger, breaks open the door and takes on the might of the monster.

In the end, Popeye succeeds in prevailing over the monster and he guides the boat and all the sailors out of the crisis, exposing the weak and cowardly Bluto. The show has successfully generated a lot of interest among the kids and families. The sound and light effects of the show is particularly of the highest standards with the entire sequence brilliantly enacted on stage.

Popeye, with his straightforward and good attitude, wins over the hearts of the little ones as they join him in the song sequence during the climax of the show. Kids jump on to the stage and greet him as they pose for pictures with the spinach-strengthened sailor man.

The Popeye show will be staged at the Fun City till June 30. Following this, the stage will host the Pink Panther show for a period of two weeks, followed by Fulla and Seven Dwarves for two weeks, followed by Spacetoon Character Shows for two weeks, which will be followed by random shows.

Modhesh Fun City would be open from 10am to 10pm during weekdays and 3pm to 10pm on Fridays during Dubai Summer Surprises 2004. The entry charges to the Fun City are Dh5 per child and Dh10 per adult.

Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in the Ice Surprises theme week, organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority till June 30, followed by Sweets Surprises by Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing from July 1-7, Cartoon Surprises by Dubai Ports Authority from July 8-14, Flower Surprises by Dubai Municipality from July 15-21, Heritage Surprises by Dubai Customs from July 22-28, Adventure Surprises by Dubai Police from July 29-August 4, Knowledge Surprises by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from August 5-11, Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18 and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19- 27, 2004.
