Dubai: KFC has expanded its commitment to using 100% fiber-based packaging from certified or recycled sources by the end of 2020, to the MENAPAKT region. This is aligned with the brand’s global commitment to develop and use sustainable packaging. By 2025, all of KFC’s plastic-based packaging will be recoverable or reusable.
Mr. Sabir Sami, General Manager, KFC, Yum! Brands, ME- North Africa- Pak, Turkey and Asia added, “At KFC, environmental sustainability is a core business focus for us, and we continuously work towards developing new solutions that help us better our waste and packaging management. By adopting fiber-based solution for our packaging we believe we can make a truly positive impact while also providing sustainable choices to our consumers.”
To ensure this change in the MENA region, KFC will work with over 277 suppliers to introduce 100% fiber-based packaging across all the 768 franchised units.
In addition to the brand’s fiber-packaging commitment, KFC has developed a roadmap that includes partnering with major suppliers and franchisees globally to identify plastic alternatives in each market. The restaurant chain is working locally and globally on several key initiatives related to achieving these goals, including conducting an audit of current systems with franchisees to identify plastic waste reduction opportunities; partnering with suppliers to identify sustainable packaging alternatives for items like straws, plastic bags, cutlery and lids; and setting market-specific goals to reduce, reuse and recycle. KFC will support franchisees to define and implement their own sustainability agenda to address the unique needs of local markets and customers.
